Hello all,

I have been having trouble getting my insurance to cover Humira injections and so I was wondering if anyone here can tell me of a type of insurance that I could get that would have a low co-pay? I have been thinking about Blue Cross of CA, but I just don't know if I can get a good deal without having to pay a high deductible. I am going to school and my husband is currently unemployed and looking for work. If anyone here currently has Blue Cross of CA, can you please tell me which plan you have? I know there is a plan for different income levels, but I am just trying to get an idea of what will cover Humira with a low co-pay.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks

Julie

Not sure about Humira, but I think they might have a co-pay support program like Enbrel does, which covers close to 100% of your co-pay, all you need to have to qualify is some type of private insurance (e.g., HMO or PPO).

I have Blue Shield of California HMO 20 plan, and my co-pays would be somewhere around 150 a month. For both Enbrel and Humira my co-pay would be 20% of the negotiated price. However, with the Enbrel support program, I pay nothing what so ever.

Look into see if Humira has a similar program. I believe they do.

i think most will pay for it but your doctors will have to jump through hoops and lots of other things hoping if they give them enough grief they'll try something else. took my doc's about 2 months jumping through hoops before they would fill the script. good luck

Most Colleges have insurance policies that cover students at a reasonable cost. Something to look into

No families take so little medicine as those of doctors, except those of apothecaries.

Excuse my ignorance but why would any insurance company take on a person who was already known to have AS. And if you didn't tell them but knew you had AS wouldn't that give them the chance to void the policy.

Enbrel and the like are extremely lucrative for the manufacturers and my impression is that the pharmaceutical companies see their future in developing VERY VERY expensive 'biologics'. Untimately that will drive up the cost of insurance to unacceptable levels for the 'average' taxpayer. Countries like Australia with a Government sponsored Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme have extremely tight criteria for use of biologics - otherwise risk bankrupting the nation.
