http://www.wellnessresources.com/tips/articles/lactoferrin_keeping_candida_friendly/

I found a few scattered references to lactoferrin in old posts here, but no evidence of anybody actually having tried it. I'm emailing my doctor right now to see if he thinks the standard supplement form is useful for inhibiting overgrowth of harmful gut flora...

ChrisTheDrifter found an interesting blog that also talks about biofilms and gut health, and the author made an interesting comment about the efficacy of lectoferrin against Kp:

Wow, fast response -- he already emailed me back!

"I have successfully used lactoferrin in the past to disrupt the biofilm and allow probiotics to grow. We have some in the office. You could use it with a probiotic for about a month."

I'm sure like all supplements there are differences. Does anybody have any info about Lactoferrin. What kind should we buy, and how much should we take?

Until then, I'm back on the organic cow's milk. Next to human milk, it has the highest concentration of lactoferrin, or is it "lactoferrins"?

Edit: I've already read from one of the links that there are different kinds of Lactoferrin as well.

"The researchers observed that it was the lactoferrampin peptide that disturbed Candida, whereas the lactoferricin B disrupted E. coli. This indicates that lactoferrin uses multiple strategies depending on the type of problem."

Anti-lactoferrin antibodies and other types of anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies (ANCA) in reactive arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1905360/

"In conclusion, we have shown that ANCA, especially Lf-ANCA, is a frequent finding in patients with ReA, whereas it occurs only occasionally in AS. Lf-ANCA may possibly be generated by cross-immunization against arthritogenic enterobacteria."

My (non-expert) interpretation of the article

Many people with reactive arthritis and a few people with AS (3 out of 43 in the study) have antibodies against lactoferrin, which could interfere with the anti-inflammatory role that lactoferrin is supposed to play in the body. These antibodies could be intended to attack certain types of bacteria, and due to structural similarities, end up attacking the body's own lactoferrin as well. That last part sounds a lot like the klebsiella molecular-mimicry theory.

SJLC: thanks for linking that :]

so does it sound to you that someone with such antibodies would not have success with taking lactoferrin? and worse...could they have worsening symptoms by taking it?
