If you want to use this QR code (Quick Response code) just save the image and paste it where you want. You can even print it and use it that way. Coffee cups, T-Shirts etc would all be good for the QR code.

Have been lurking for a little while just trying to read up. I was finally diagnosed with AS by my GP back in March which was confirmed in June by my rheumatologist. This was after 7 years of other docs who were dead set that I had a disc problem or just some muscle spasms which led to lots of wasted time in physical therapy and useless meds.
So I'm here trying to figure out how to best deal with the AS because I want my life back.
My rheumy gave me indocin short term and wanted to see if it helped and it did, it worked like a miracle. Gained most of the range of motion back in my neck within 2 days of taking it. Only problem is that it makes me dizzy, lightheaded, and weak. So not really a great solution long term, maybe just on weekends when the pain is at a 8 or higher. Have an appt in Sept to see him again and we are supposed to look at other alternatives
Just looking forward to a lot of reading and learning from everyone here and hoping I have some things to contribute as well.
If you wanna live life on your own terms gotta be willing to crash and burn

If I was you I would go through the NSD threads over the next few weeks. After you have armed yourself with knowledge and have asked questions...go hard!
Give it 12 months. I am 7 months in and feeling better although my AS is mild compared to many others on this site.
Good luck.
Keith

Hi Sapa
No. No pain killers.
1. Strict NSD/no dairy 2. Regular exercise 3. 5ml Propolis each day 4. Vitamin B and C plus magnesium and calcium supplements 5. Psyllium husks to eliminate constipation. 6. Masses of leafy vegetables (spinach and now brocolli) 7. 1 tsp of Celtic sea salt 8. 15ml of both flaxseed and fish oil 9. Apple cider vinegar and olive oil with every meal 10. Cook with coconut oil. 11. Lots of omega eggs, salmon and tuna.
I initially lost lots of weight but I have actually gained 4kg since the dark days in January / February when I was 69kg (I am 1.81m tall). I am now 73kg.
I have had a week of almost zero inflammation after annoying flares on and off for months. If I was you i would give it a go. Say for 12 months. If it doesn't work and you were super strict then try something else.
I am hopeful of longer periods of being pain free, although my pain levels never compared with many people on this site.
If nothing else NSD puts you in the driving seat. I strongly recommend it.
Good luck. Go hard, go early, go strict.
Keith
Feel free to ask any questions. I am no expert but I am 7 months in now.

Hello there,
My advice it to keep reading and learn what you can. Personally I do not like indocin choice, it can be effective... but I know a good % have to come off of med because of ulcers.
I would prefer azulfadine/sulfasalazine as med in conjunction with dietary changes personally. I no longer take meds as diet is very effective for me on its own now.
Take care,
Tim
AS may win some battles, but I will win the war.

I am not sure if it works for all, no one or even me! It "seems" to be working for me. That's all I know.

NSD can be more than just no starch. if i only cut out starch this would not work for me. ive had to also cut out refined sugar, vinegar, inulin, most dairy, fruit juices, overcooked veggies, and ive had reactions to coconut so i dont eat that either. also, im nearly 3 mos in and am finally noticing bigger improvements. all my improvements prior to were small yet encouraging. and everyone here says '2 steps forward 1 step back'. they aint kiddin'. ive still had some baaaaad days even though ive been good on diet. i still have a long way to go.
everyone is different. its trial and error. when your eating like this its easier to pinpoint what flares you.
AS & Fibro. NSD + no sugar

My bet would be that if you try this diet, you won't regret it. I noticed an immediate difference 6 months ago, and it has been 3 steps forward 2 steps back since then. After six months, I haven't taken any pain meds, and feel like a new man. Not completely healed(possible permanent damage), but I am certainly much, much better.
