i cant believe i went back to this guy but most of you know about getting treated badly by a pain management doctor. anyhow the last time he said that he didnt believe i had AS and didnt know where i got that diagnosis but i got my medical records from my rhuemy and he looked through it and had the nerve to tell me that he didnt see anything in my records that would justify him giving me any pain meds!!!! he told me " i dont know why you came back" i almost lost it and stood up and in a loud voice(i tried really hard not to yell) told him "because you said you needed proof and there it IS!!! he said "well i looked over it and dont see anything" by this time i was so mad i was shaking and then i told him i had bone spurs on my spine and he said that he wanted to see my xrays. and i thought i can get em but YOU wont see them cause i aint coming back to you!! and even if he didnt he'd probably say that wasnt enough then id be going to jail!! well im gonna give it one more try(at another pain clinic) then i get im out of options!! all i want is to be out of pain as much as possible thats all. if there was a super-aspirin i would take them and be done!! jeez well im done whining now, thanks for being patient while i blew off some steam! Jeff

i'm really not sure why sometimes people question us as much as they do, as you said, all we want to do is minimize the pain and maximize our functioning. yes, please do try another doctor. i've been to 5 rheumatologists before i found one who could help me, 2 endocrinologists, several physiatrists, etc. and its not me shopping around as much as them saying they can't help me, either because they don't know what is wrong, or because they think what is wrong is beyond their ability to help, and sending me on my way. that's ok with me, better to be with some one who can and will help you, and especially someone who seems to want to as well. better luck with the next doctor! and everything we learn along the way makes us better patients as well, i believe. though i think the rheumatologist i just saw last week could have dx'ed me with a lot less data, for me, think all the years of being a patient, listening to and learning from all these various doctors, reading, coming here and becoming educated, helped me help him make the diagnosis of spondyloarthropathy an easy one; now just to figure out which kind.

He treated you badly. You gave him the benefit of the doubt and provided him with more good information. He still treated you badly. Definitely time to find a new pain doc. Please don't give up just yet on finding one though.

Hey Jeff,

Sorry to hear about the poor visit to the doctor, sounds like he is set in his ways.

Hopefully somehow you can get out of the pain by seeing someone else. Never hurts to vent here.

Tim

Hi Jeff.
Now I have a feeling that this doctor doesn't realize how painful and debilitating AS (or any other arthritis) can be. I would ask your doctor to get referred to another pain management specialist now.

HLA-B27+, JRA diagnosis in 1981, re-diagnosed as AS in 1988. Also iritis, colitis, and psoriasis. NSD + low carb helps me. My health makes it hard for me to post in a timely way.

Jeff, what has happened to you is completely unacceptable. I'm so sorry to hear it!! It is beyond me how dismissive some medical so-called professionals can be of people who come to them for care. Definitely find yourself a new one.

Warm hugs,

Kat

Jeff, I am so sorry that he acted in such a stupid way. I don't understand why he is in the pain management business if he treats his patients like he treated you. You do need to let both your GP and Rheumy know what he did. I hope you find a better PM doc quickly.
