Supermom, it is wierd! I grew up in Europe....I should be wanting to play womens hand ball ha ha. I actually tried that and it's an evil sport(a lot of pushing and nail scratching). And when they all suffer from PMS it makes for an interesting game to say the least.

Hi Mark and welcome to KA. I'm really glad you found us.

Anxiety is part and parcel of living with AS and other diseases. You are not alone. Please do look into ways of lessening the impact of anxiety. Definitely talk to your doctor, but also learn relaxation and meditation techniques to quiet your mind and destress. Stress and anxiety do have an impact on our immune systems and inflammation levels if they are left un-dealt-with for too long.

Hugs,

Kat

I didn't know that women's hand ball is big in Europe. Where did you grow up?

Hi Supermom,
I grew up in Denmark. We watched and played soccer, I love my ryebread(which may now be lost forever sniffles), and yes hand ball is huge there. It use to be soccer for boys and hand ball for the girls in school, but then things changed - just like women are now playing hockey here. Ever heard of open faced sandwiches yum yum yum.

Thanks all.

The anxiety seems to be on the way out. It feels great to have a break from it. My GP has been very supportive, offering many avenues of treatment. From drugs to medical hypnosis. The best treatment has been her listening and disproving all my fears, from MS to cancer.

I've also accepted i have a chronic disease and it may have more of an impact on my life as time goes on. I feel optimistic.

Hey Mark.

I'm 17 and have probably had AS for about 2 years now. From my short experience, I went through long periods last year of bad and at times debilitating levels of pain. I honestly thought that my life was gone, I would have to give up my favourite sports such as football, cricket and skiing. I thought that I'd never be able to travel around the world. Things have started changing though and for a while now I have been in a manageable, stable condition, almost at the point where I have been forgetting about my AS completely. I havnt missed a single class this year or gone home once this year during school. Last year I was going home at least once during school a day. This shows a huge improvement.

I'm playing under 21 football for my club now. The season just started and Im loving every moment of it so far. I also have big plans to travel overseas next year despite my AS. I cant wait to be honest.

Its interesting though that you mentioned your anxiety is more of a problem then your AS. I think I've been having the exact same problem for a while now. It turns into depression for me some days aswell. Im sure that its an allergy or something though.

Noticed your from wellington. I am aswell!
