Hi Bob,
I am so excited about the NSD and I feel so lucky the days when I can walk freely without the stabbing pains. I have so much I want to do, taking in more fosterkids(we are looking for a bigger house), hiking, skiing, try something new like rec. hockey for(old) women ha ha, building things, the world has so much to offer and I hate standing on the sidelines. I think I am going to leave the probiotics in the kitchen cabinet for now, it would be nice to stabilize this decease and then experiment. I just noticed the picture of you and your beautiful family, you are so blessed. That is a good reason to want to stay healthy and mobile.
Hugs Nette

Bob,

How about making your own yoghurt (forget if you can *do* dairy...) and fermenting your own sauerkraut for your source of healthy pathogens?

I make sauerkraut as per fellow KA member JeanneMedina's recipes - white and purple cabbage and plenty of dill - colourful and delicious!

Hey there,

Yogurt I mostly bought Stoneyfield Farms in states... rarely had issues, but did not trial until 1 1/2-2 years after being on diet. I made my own in States a few times without issue. Here in Argentina I have issue with making my own... I have no idea why. But after 2-3 days of eating, the stiffness comes back to SIs. There is a brand here I found I can tolerate (Milkraut... so all is good).

Love the sauerkraut.. but again, if I eat too much it disrupts my gut. Maybe I make it too strong... it really empties me out (sorry if too much info). But agree... great probiotic source, I can only eat a little hear and there, otherwise always visiting restroom.

For the past 90 days, I have been taking a high quality 60 billion strain probiotic daily....and it has virtually eliminated my AS pain. I have stopped all NSAIDS. I am truly amazed. I hope others will try this approach to gut healing and will also have the superb results that I have experienced. Probiotics seem far safer to me than the biologics pushed by mainstream medicine. This source of probiotics works well for me www.renewlife.com I am sure there are others too. Best to all !

hi,

i'm new to the whole probiotics thing; thought my daily stoney field yogurt was good enough, but a stool sample test indicated no lactobacilli, thus starting probiotics.

i've decided to ease into them, just in case, and can already see my constipation going away.

but how many billion little bugs does every one take?

Great to hear of probiotic Success! (one thing about the "RenewLife" brand is that their probiotics seem to contain FOS, could be a problem, obviously not for all.)

I've been taking Udo's Choice Adult Blend Probiotic , but not for long enough time. I also eat fermented sauerkraut...

ive taken 15 billion 2x/day in the past, when this AS all started. funny it worked best, almost like a pain reliever, if i broke it open and put it in some applesauce. loooong stretch of not taking them. im so sensitive to everything at this point i get AS pain from 15 bill. i got pearls elite with 5 billion = AS pain. pearls acidophilus - 1 bill every other day works best for me. i tried culturelle 10 bill (in gelatin cap). everyday = pain .. every other day is best.

Hi,
I guess it is all over the board, regarding how much to take and if it's beneficial or not. I am going to stick with my No Starch Diet and consider probiotics later. I love the discussions and the different view points - this is much better that trying to talk to a one track mind doctor with a prescription pad.

thanks for the info, sorry you've had so much trouble with probiotics. guess i'll try my what i've started with, maybe add some more if that seems to be what makes sense, seems like its a lot of trial and error sometimes. but so good to have this site to get started / for comparisons to others smile
