I have been on the NSD for over a month now; well actually since last Wednesday I haven't eaten a thing. I still feel terrible and it hurts so much to move.

I was strict to the diet, even before the diet I ate way healthier than most people. 90% of my food intake is whole Vietnamese food, my diet has been like this since 2003. I did have the odd hamburger but had it between lettuce on the NSD.

Im (was) athletic and fit. Played Hockey, Basketball and squash. I was OK without eating I have muscle to pick up the slack for now , at least for this fast.

Mr Doctor has a lab in the office so I can get results rather quick. Today my test were unchanged in fact some are even a little higher. My CRP, ESR, DDimmer and Interluken -17 are still all really high. My blood pressure was 142/98 which is much lower. So thats some good news that the pills help with my BP.

Im really hoping not to try biologic's so if anybody has any idea's Im all ears. Im going to eat again in the morning, but of course no starch or dairy. Im so discouraged. Why did the fasting and the NSD not show any results?

I had to take out all sugars too, even fruit. How long did you fast?

Wow. 7days and you are still hurting???

What meds are you taking? Something i figured out the hard way was that i actually feel better off my meds.

One thing i might try is drinking 24oz of water before you eat anything tomorrow. (doing this everyday really helps detox you)

Another suggestion i have is to take lots of vitamin c. In divided doses. To bowel tolerance. In high doses vit c is a pain reliever, and anti viral antibiotic.

Hi Skywalker,

I have also been discouraged since I started the low starch diet and am really not too sure what I plan to do next.

One of my favorite things to do it to travel and that's kind of what I'm doing at the moment. I left Australia to live in Germany for a few years and am often away for a week at a time or a few days and it is SOO hard to so low/no starch while travelling. I am starting to really wonder whether it's worth it at all since I have no results so far.

I have not eliminated starch but I have made drastic reductions, basically along the lines of the London AS diet. I cut out all of the major sources but am still getting little bits in processed food etc.

Should this be providing some relief?

Then depending on who you talk to, some people say don't eat fried food, some say don't eat dairy, some say don't eat sugar... it's all so confusing.

My c-reactive protein has dropped substantially over the last few months, but I really have no idea whether that is due to the diet or the prendisolone that I was taking. I am tempted to return to my normal diet for a couple of months and see if I experience any increase in pain or whether my c-reactive protein goes up again.

Good luck to you and I hope you find some answers soon.

Phil

I drank a lot of water and still haven't eaten yet. I really do drink a a lot in a day. Also all the vegetables usually get boiled and I drink about 4 liters of that left over water a day and have for about 5 years. Mind you Ive only had straight water for the past week.

I tried day 2 of the fast only taking my BP pills and by day 4 I couldn't move so I resumed day 5 the rest of my pills. Which are Arthotec 2x150 and 1200 mg Gabapentin. Ive played hockey on a broken leg so I feel I have a good tolerance for pain. However my spine and bum feel ridiculously painful especially without the Arthotec. I worry cause the bone absorption around my spine and ribs are really bad, thus it hurts to breathe even small breaths. Hence breathing got real bad without the pills.

I just want to work more than 1 hour a day and I like to travel too. I have a house in Vietnam too I would like to visit every couple years, and retire there for the winter months in my later years.

I really need a natural way to feel better. The side effects of the biologic not only worries me because of my genetic predisposition but also hampers travel and the like.

Hi sky,

When you go off meds that control inflammation (nsaid or steroid or biologic) your body takes some time to begin regulating on its own again. For me, 4 days is the magic number. It hurts so bad i think i am going to die, but on day 5 i begin feeling better.

Arthrotec is an nsaid i believe, and so damages your gut lining making it easier for klebs to proliferate. Think swiss cheese. It makes holes in your gut lining.

even high blood pressure can be lowered without drugs.

Hello Skywalker,

Sorry to hear so far no results. I do not think this will necessarily work for all as we are all a bit different. Much like no med works for all of us here.

Fasting and not seeing results is a little discouraging.

Do you supplement at all? May want to post what you typically eat.

Take care,

Tim

SkyW,

That is discouraging, with no less pain after fasting. All I can say is it took me three months to see and feel a noticeable difference by subscribing to No-starch-sugar-dairy-etc. In the last two weeks I've dipped into hard cheese, fruit and nuts again - and my upper back is much more problematic becuase of it (it seems)...

I did a 3-day apple fast after about 1.5 months on the NSD, and did notice a difference, with less symptoms. Am just finishing another round of the same fast now, after 4 months of NSD, and intend to stick to NO dairy (only had cheese before), fruit, nuts, eggs (and baked coconut flour goods) again. Hoping to reintro some of those things later on... but am thinking it could be a year!

Hello, Skywalker:

The LSD produced spotty results for me at first and it was before I heard of NSD, so I decided to begin taking antibiotics in addition to being as strict as possible. After a couple of rounds of these agents, I was able to eliminate dairy, all starches, and eat very light meals with no heavy oils or fats and remain symptom-free as long as I was this strict.

I am totally perplexed that You might feel bad after seven days fasting! When I was taking NSAIDs at my worst, it took about three days for pains to creep back up and sometimes a seven day fast was just not enough; it is all a matter of getting ahead of the disease in stages, mostly. The NSD is not something that will work so quickly; not like a drug but it is a lifestyle change that we adjust to, eventually. Ebringer claimed it took his patients three months to first learn the LSD and another three for them to feel better.

I am rather more impatient than that, and got relief after only four days taking antibiotics plus strict LSD. I encourage everyone who desires better results to incorporate the antibiotics of course especially instead of NSAIDs. The Road Back Foundation has a list of physicians willing to treat rheumatic diseases using antibiotics, and although they might not have the best choices in mind, at least these agents work for some people. I would send You my own protocol as a reference, if You are interested--this is no experiment but an effort to regain Your health and You are making considerable efforts in this regard; we are here to support You and hope with You that You can achieve the great results some of us have enjoyed.

KickAS,
John
