Hi all,
I am 2 weeks into this NSD and am slowly trying to find things to fufill me! I do miss my old foods and am eating just the basics but it is working. I have read that coconut or almond flour is available to make things with.. where is this most easily found? At a whole foods store? are their better sources than others?

Right now I'm testing everything with Iodine and am able to eat many veggetable in my area. I'm doing eggs for breakfast and trying to be creative in how I make them so its not always the same. I need help with seasonings though so any recommendations please share! Lunch and dinner are usually a salad with some protein, but I need to try the recipes in these forums so i dont get bored!

thank you,
Jennifer

I get coconut flour from amazon.com. For almond flour, I buy almonds (from Sams Club) and then grind them in my blender to make flour.

Hi there,

I buy coconut flour online. Just google around and find the best option for you. My hubby Jon can't tolerate almond meal/almond flour in much quantity so we just buy small 1 cup packets of almond meal at the supermarket on the odd occasion I want to bake with almond flour.

That's great you're testing etc. Just be sure to test the veges after they are cooked as this is when the starch is released. Sometimes things will test OK raw but be black when cooked.

We don't use much in the way of seasonings due to Jon being quite starch sensitive so he can't have too many spices. Green herbs are OK and things like balsamic vinegar and lemon juice.

All the best

Great ideas on the flours... and on testing the veggies once they are cooked, hadn't thought of that smile

I really do like lemon juice so that will be a good seasoning for me... and i like that its alkalinizing too...

Hi rainshower it's sunnypower lol

I got the Let's do Organic coconut flour (iherb had a better price than amazon)and it tests neg with iodine for me. I got it on recommendation from jaybird? I do ok with it but I think everyday starts stiffening me up but still experimenting so haven't concluded that yet. It makes some damn tasty things. I previously tried it thinking it flared me but there were other questionable ingredients in my recipe that was prob the issue... chocolate chips frown

I would really like to try the almond flour though. SJLC I think said he used King Arthur but I'd like some other suggestions too that are backed up by neg iodine test. I buy most of my specialty food items online.

As for seasoning...
I'm with the others, herbs are about the safest and you can get creative with the combinations to change it up. Lemons or limes are good as I cannot do vinegar. I do not use pepper even fresh ground. I have used garlic powder before with no prob and I believe it tested neg too.

I can't do onions (inulin) but I've been curious about onion powder. I'm also curious about extracted spice oils that naj has tried but would like more info on it. That would open the door to many many tastes we miss. I do have cinnamon oil and clove oil but have not used them. Did test with no change but wonder if the iodine just couldn't get thru the oil?
