I had a Baileys and coffee last night and when l got up this morning l was feeling a bit sore and stiff in my hips and shoulders. Is it possible the Baileys sent me into a bit of a flare?

Funny thing - my husband just brought "me" home a bottle of Bailey's. I looked him, surprised, since he (should) know by now that those sorts of things are BAD...

Grabbed the bottle, just to show him, checked the ingredients: among others, Maltodextrin (polysaccharide, a common food additive, derived from... starch).

Any liqueur would be a bad alkoholic choice, always contains suspect ingredients. Anything that sweet and tasty is a for gone bad thing ;(

Moderate amount of wine will be my go-to during the holidays wink

Oh that's a shame, I was looking forward to buying a bottle for Christmas. They don't list the ingredients in the UK, so all I knew was that it is gluten free, well they don't guarantee that, but I get mouth ulcers if I consume gluten and it hasn't affected me.

Yes, Swedish by birth. Just came to this part of the world to enjoy some snowsports. That was 17 years ago...

Do you speak Swedish Joanne?

Nice to meet you!

Or make your own http://www.cupcakeproject.com/2009/12/homemade-baileys-irish-cream-youll.html. I mighthave a go at a variation of this, could even make it a bit less sugary.

Isn't any whiskey, or beer for that matter, derived of grain? I've considered red wine safe and possibly tequila (my favorite), though I haven't drank anything since being diagnosed. I'm not sure even homemade Bailey's would be safe, unless there's something in the fermentation process that makes whiskey safe for us.

Iritis first diagnosed in 1991, presently recurrent and steroid resistant.
Tested HLA B27 positive in 1996.
AS diagnosed October of 2011.

Putting most of my eggs in the NSD and exercise basket, using only TENS, massage, heat and ice, and NSAIDS (sparingly) for pain. Drops for iritis as flare necessitates. Looking back I feel I would have been diagnosed with AS years ago, if I had found a rheumy earlier than 2011.

Yeah I have some trouble with beers, presumably due to the grains used.. maybe some (all?) beers are not fully fermented and still have the starch in 'em.

I can drink cider ok, but the preservatives in these make me feel weird, and fall asleep. All in all not so very enjoyable :-(

By cider being "ok" I mean that it doesn't bring on inflammation
