HI everyone... the past few days I have had the most miserable bladder pain of my life...its not a UTI, no infection present...went to the GP yesterday and she said I 'stumped' her. She suggested Interstitial Cystitis and put me on a med to help with the bladder pain for 7 days. It helps a bit but the pain just comes back if I dont take the med.

Does anyone out there have bladder pain that is associated with AS? No burning or pain with urination for me, just intense searing pain after I urinate in the whole pelvic region, not in my back for a change.

Well my SI'S were so inflammed that it cut my bladder off and I could not urinate but that is entirely different.

With AS ANY part of your body can become inflammed do you think maybe that is what is happening with your bladder?

Bridget here has alot of knowledge with Interstitial Cystitis hopefully she will chime in it might be a day or two she has a disability hearing tomorrow that we are hoping she wil be approved.

Hopefully some others will chime in also.

I do hope you get it figured out and get to feeling better.

Hugs!

Thanks Angelmom. I know the AS inflammation can affect anywhere...but this bladder pain is so intense...

just thought I'd update on my bladder pain... it turned out to be a large uterine fibroid (benign tumor) pushing into my bladder! So I had laparoscopic surgery on Dec 16th to remove it (size of large grapefruit) and a few little ones...at least it wasn't interstitial cystitis of the bladder which i thought initially.

I was terrified to have the surgery due to possible flare-up of my AS, but I just took my anti-inflammatory meds and the vicoden and somehow made it through to today, 3 weeks post surgery.

My back started to flare about 6 days post surgery but i did gentle stretching as best i could and somehow the AS flare went away. Now I hope to not have to get up so much as night to pee, now that the fibroid is gone!

I hope to never have to have a surgery again, but, that being said, this one went ok painwise and I was really surprised and thankful for no increase in AS pain...

I hope the holidays were good for you all smile

You don't know me yet, but so very glad your surgery went well and you're in the clear! Keep taking it easy and be well. smile

Iritis first diagnosed in 1991, presently recurrent and steroid resistant.
Tested HLA B27 positive in 1996.
AS diagnosed October of 2011.

Putting most of my eggs in the NSD and exercise basket, using only TENS, massage, heat and ice, and NSAIDS (sparingly) for pain. Drops for iritis as flare necessitates. Looking back I feel I would have been diagnosed with AS years ago, if I had found a rheumy earlier than 2011.
