Just to say that John is entirely right and open when he says he is just another member. He does own KA, (Thank Goodness for it is a super site) In all my years here, and in all my disagreements with John, he has NEVER EVER used his ownersship in any degree to further his views and passions. John is tenacious, committed, opinionated, very bright and entirely fair in his membership status.

Complain of his views if you must but, not his behaviour, he is (are you reading this John?) an honourable man.

I have tried and successfully eliminated inflammation with strict dietary restrictions though it seemed rather clear to me that there was a lot more going on than just a reaction to starch and dairy. These restrictions are just the tip of the iceberg for many people who have tried the diet. Therefore, it would seem the whole thing is much more complicated than just targeting a single bacteria. So I encourage anyone with this disease to consider the diet as it has worked for me in the past but I also understand if they struggle or ultimately fail to maintain it. The whole thing can become overwhelming and impractical for many people who just want to live normal lives again. I was miserable with our without the diet, for different reasons. The fact is we don't have an option to live normal lives so more research must be done.

Food isn't the enemy, our faulty genes are.

If you are referring to the recent post by FlexibleMind in the NSD forum on this...if you actually read it you will see the poster is under the care of a doctor and the doctor DID NOT suspect the diet was the cause of his high cholesterol but rather it was a familial tendency.

Jon has been on the NSD for 8 years and he had his cholesterol checked and it is well within safe ranges - it has actually dropped since going on NSD. From what I have read over the years here this seems to be the common pattern.

Just wanted to clear that misconception up there.

As you were......

it was another member from the 'failures' thread. there are many different diet and lifestyle factors that can lead to high cholesterol and there is no reason why NSD per se would necessarily be dangerous for cholesterol but it is one thing to be aware of if increasing fat intake. increasing vegetable intake can often balance this out. there was one study where people did nothing else different except eating a raw carrot with breakfast and their cholesterol decreased by over 10%.

An "honourable man" does not call a fellow sufferer a hoaxer, as he accused me of ....

John is an honourable man. I can attest to that.

However, trying to tell people who have had success with the NSD (some for many years) that it is just a placebo is of course perfectly reasonable.

Hmmm (again for the last time)

Cheers

Keith

Hello, well, without wanting to start yet another thread within a thread which indeed sits within another thread may I comment thus:

First, I only skim read text in threads so I miss quite a lot, because of this I have to confess that I don not know why or where John called you a hoaxer. That being said, a dishonourable person might lie or mislead about how they truly feel or what they sincerely believe, an honourable person would not do so. Honourable, in this case, refers to truth and a genuine and honest belief and behaviours. This may not encompass nor identify error, and may sometimes be unpalletable. They may be downright wrong, but what is said or thought is genuinely intended. John I find is genuine in his beliefs and his interpretation and rationalisation of those beliefs, this makes him honourable in my humble view.

John has cut me down to size a few times, he has been acerbic, possibly even aggresive, but he has always been true to what he believes.
