Hey guys!! Hope you are all doing ok?

I just wanted to know if any of you have experienced this..I think it's rather odd!

I recently had a sickness bug for a few days and then just this week I was admitted to hospital for one night after a couple of days of severe kidney pain, which turned out to be the cysts on my right kidney being all inflamed and infected. Thoroughout both of those times...I experienced NO arthritis symptoms. I could happily lay on my back all night with no muscle spasms or stiffness!

Now my kidney pain has almost gone...the terrible muscle spasm just under the bottom of my shoulder blades is back with a vengeance!!

Is that weird?! I don't know what to make of that?!

Hi Moo,

The brain is a very powerful too in combatting pain etc. When your mind is distracted on something else, the pain signals are not felt in the same way, often not at all. I did a psy degree and it was amazing what I saw in patients in severe pain. If distracted enough the pain was block from the initial problem.

Hey Hayley!

Not too sure about the cysts, could it be a side affect from medication you are currently taking? I think I remember you saying that you had to cut your trip short in New Zealand and you were still seeking confirmation of your AS.. how did that go?

When I have the flu, my AS pain isn't so bad. If I sat still that long without the flu (or bad sickness) I would be in a terrible flare, with pinched nerves, etc.

It's like my body is that toddler that keeps pushing until it gets "the look" that means----really, no more.... REALLY

That or the inflammation in my body actually has a real job to work on, so my joints get a break? This is simply guessing on my part. I also take more muscle relaxers to help prevent AS pain, because I'm going to be sleeping off the flu anyway, so the drowsiness isn't a bad thing.

Hope you get a break from everything, AS included, very soon!!

Seb.. I was already diagnosed with Polycystic Kidney Disease well before AS so it's not related at all. I was monitored from birth for that as its in my family.

Yeah after 5/6 months of returning from NZ they confirmed AS and I've been struggling with it since!!!

Hope you are well xxx
