If you want to use this QR code (Quick Response code) just save the image and paste it where you want. You can even print it and use it that way. Coffee cups, T-Shirts etc would all be good for the QR code.

Hello all, For the past 3 months, I have been keeping my AS under relative control with DIET+ Inflammix 360 and Permavite daily shakes. Yesterday I was scheduled for the first part of a tooth implant, that is inserting a titanium screw into the jaw where it is supposed to sit in for 6 months, in order to have time to integrate with the bone. I was told to take some Ibuprofen when the anesthetic would wear off. Because I found the post op pain manageable, I didn't take the Ibuprofen and by 9PM I was no longer in pain at all. So I went to bed and woke up in horrible low back pain at 4AM. My AS had returned with a vengeance! Additionally all day today I was extremely weak, exhausted, dizzy, my eyesight not very good at all (sign that the inflammation was spreading all over the body) and around noon time my legs muscles started aching terribly. Then the toes swelled so much that I couldn't put my normal shoes on (this never happened to me before). All these while my jaw where the implant was inserted was and still is not swollen at all. Conclusion: today is definitely one of the most difficult days I've had to handle So I wanted to ask you: have any of you had tooth implants and experienced similar symptoms? Can a tooth implant trigger such an unexpected & sudden AS relapse? Grateful in advance for your comments, Alina.

AS symptoms started 1991. Official dx in 2006 with HLA-B27+, fused SIJ, bone spurs in back, extreme rib/hip pain, and other family with SpA. Started Enbrel in 2006 with good results, but stopped in 2010 due to nerve damage (MS) from it. Getting good results with no-starch diet since 2011.

I had a root canal about 2 years ago. The dentist assured me that the metal did not contain nickel and that it was "safe". I was back within a month, tried rinses, tighter filling of the space between the teeth - nothing worked. The whole outer edge of the tooth, around the gumline - mildly inflamed and bleeding. After 6 months, the dentist removed the metal of the crown and replaced all with ceramic materials. Haven't had any problems since. Now - absolutely no more metals in my mouth. Interesting, but almost 20 years ago I had another root canal. I had absolutely no problems then or even now - I assume something changed with the metals that the dentist used. I will always be watching for metals - but in your case, maybe the novacaine or other drug used in the procedure has caused a problem. Good Luck!

Gbash, thanks for that link. Interesting reading and a good reminder of: 1. what metal toxicity can do and 2. how mouth health is linked to overall health. Alina, I had a tooth implant done like you describe 2 years ago. No problems with it causing a flare like you describe, but that doesn't mean it couldn't in you. Mine took longer to heal and was more painful because the old root canaled tooth was ankyolosed to the bone and they had to remove all the bone in front of it to get it out. Cutting bone is very painful! Since I'm on LDN, I couldn't take the oxycotin that they wanted to give me and instead took a frew tramadol and tylenol or aleve (can't remember which?). My mouth really hurt, but no flare. On the other hand, I did have a physical trauma that put me into a flare. I slipped on a bird toy on the floor and fell really hard on both knees, thought for sure I broke them, but didn't. 2-3 days later, my SI joint started getting really bad and I got my "typical autoimmune rash" forming on my lower legs and feet (when I'm really bad I get this rash), then everything else followed after that. It was pretty amazing. I had heard of others flaring due to some physical trauma but had never experienced it til then. Maybe that's what has happened to you? Or maybe what Gbash posted about? Feel better soon!
