Since their birth my wife, the ever lovely Diane, has silently resigned hereself to the fact that one of our triplet daughters would inevitably have AS. Her reasoning was that my grandmother was one of two cildren and had AS. My mother was one of three children and she had AS. I am one of three children and have AS. All of us are HLA-B27 positive.
Nearly twelve year of unspoken anxiety having passed, Jamie manifested AS like problems repeatedly the last tow year.
First GI issues, then this summer after a delightful and successful first season on the local girls laCrosse team she was incapacitated with mysterious back pain.
Diane was ready to have the three of them tested.
Test results are in and ALL THREE of my little angels are HLA-B27 negative.
The back pains ebbed about a week ago and may be more attributable to young Jamie's penchant for psychotically scary roller coasters.

Hello Steve. I have daughters too. Thankfully so far no AS detected. In my family the AS has repeatedly skipped a generation and the generation it did affect (me) was me out of five so statistically (unless you subscribe to the Mark Twain view of lies damned lies etc) your girls may escape. Good god I do so hope they get away with it

I remember Dianne's pregnancy, and remember a note I sent you, based on thoughts I had during MY OWN pregnancy, reassuring you during Dianne's pregnancy about how the future may develop in ways you wouldn't expect, and how you can't know which processes will impact your childs' lives.
So glad for the negative B27s. may there be much happiness in those three young ladies' lives.

Very happy to hear that news for you.... You must be relieved...
I have two boys, one 8 the other 5 weeks!
We are both very much ,as you say, quiet and unspoken with worry that my eldest ,who has shown troublesome back and hip issues may carry my AS gene.....
I myself first showed signs of back pain at age 8/9.
Curiously, like you say, I am one of three children. My dad has AS, my two elder siblings are fine, but me, I got stung with b27 pos and good old AS... AS

Steve, hope it is that simple and she has no serious problems. I have a Jaymi also, fixing to be 34. She has been having lots of problems, has her first appointment with a rheumy this coming Jan. She has been tested twice and got a negative result both times. Still does not keep the parent in me from worrying, you are only ever as happy as your least happy child.

Yea! Now, enjoy the rest of their childhood along with them.

That is great news Steve. My daughter was tested, and she is negative for HLA=B27. Just yesterday my wife was telling me she was worried that my oldest son may have AS. He was a gymnast in his youger year, and is still very flexible. I am sure that is a releaf for you. I still worry about my two boys.
Since they are coming into their teenage years now you have to start worrying about the boys.
