If you want to use this QR code (Quick Response code) just save the image and paste it where you want. You can even print it and use it that way. Coffee cups, T-Shirts etc would all be good for the QR code.

Hi Leslie,
I've had the steroid shot in the heel. I'm just curious - how do you bear the shot? It was so painful for me, my head was spinning and I broke out in a sweat. My husband said I almost broke his hand. The doc said it had a numbing agent in it, but it doesn't numb as it goes in. After a while it goes numb, but when the numbing wears out, it was really painful. Eventually (I don't remember how long) it felt better. Do they do something different for you or do you have any tips? Thanks, Wanda

I add this only for statistical consideration...
Cortisone injections every 12 months in my right index toe is the only procedure that provides 100% pain relief for toe and heel pain (level 8+).
It is a bit painful, but for only 10-15 seconds. A very small price to pay.
The ratio of 10-15 sec pain to 12 months relief is a small price to pay.
I will see my podiitrist in Febuary for another treatment.
Jeff

Hi Sarah Greetings from South Africa. This is the first time Ive posted with AS. Ive had AS since '88 and Im getting by with diclofenac every now and again. Lately I have been getting pain in my feet, but not in my heal, on the outer side. Would you know if this is normal? Stay Strong. Andrew

I live in Sydney, Australia and I have had also this kind of pain in my left foot for few months ago. My friend suggest me a heel pain clinic to get the treatment for my heel pain. Seriously I got an effective treatment from that clinic in a very short time and I am surprised by their treatments. I think you should also contact a professional clinic for your heel problem. You can get some more information on Plantar Fasciitis at http://www.sydneyheelpain.com.au/what-is-plantar-fasciitis.

Best advice..... Air walkers (they kinda rock)
Brand: rebok.
It feels weird when you first wear them, but its like walking on a cloud.

Platypus is my old name, and I am back.
This is interesting because not much has changed since I wrote my own advice.
I have been through the plantar fasciitis at least twice since I wrote that response. In fact I discovered via x-rays taken of my feet that I have calcaneal heel spurs.
What helped? I went to a physical therapist and she worked on my feet. She did acupuncture on my feet, and she prescribed some exercises, including rolling a golf ball. That one helps to stretch the foot. At the same time I got a new pair of orthotics.
However, disaster did strike just after I got the orthotics, and my feet began to swell so that I could not fit into any lace up shoes. Summer was horrible because my feet swelled so bad and I could not wear shoes, only sandals, and every time the supermarket trolley hit my toes it was terrible.
Then I found a pair of Homy Peds in the men's sizes because the womens' sizes are not wide enough. I was able to wear them complete with my orthotics for the next so many months.
Summer is coming very soon, and with summer my feet will most likely swell up again.
My advice on the subject remains the same though. Go see a podiatrist to get some help with the feet if you have plantar fasciitis and I would recommend going to see a physical therapist as well.

I wear custom orthotics in my workout shoes and they help me. Maybe go talk to your dr about getting fitted. I have very flat feet, though, so that's why they help me so much.
Everything is okay. Trust yourself, and do not live from a place of fear.

Hi Sarah, I know that pain all too well. I had it for 5 years when I was a teenager. I received a rigid pair of custom made insoles from my local arthritis centre that ended before my toes and I still wear them 20 years later. I just recently had a bad flare and started a NSD/no dairy diet. It has helped a ton after only 2 weeks.
Cheers, Jim
Diagnosed in 1983 with SEA syndrome. An variant of AS. Feet, hips, chest, back and achilles, 3 bad flares since. NSD started Dec. 2013 and my worst flare seems to be getting better after 2 weeks on a NSD....we'll see. Arthrotec and sulfasalazine.
