If you want to use this QR code (Quick Response code) just save the image and paste it where you want. You can even print it and use it that way. Coffee cups, T-Shirts etc would all be good for the QR code.

Can allergies cause a flare? I've had terrible pain in April and May, and the same thing happened to me the previous year in both April and May. I know I have allergies and currently have a little fluid in my ear (doctor said it was due to allergies). I will ask my rheumatologist about this on my next visit.
I have psoriatic arthritis and most of my pain tends to be either cervical or axial.
Thanks!
Ashley

I've read some anecdotal evidence, that people with arthritis have gotten relief, from common over the counter antihistamines.

I don't know if I'd describe it as a flair, but my A.S. and inflamation in general is worse during allergy season, illness, or low air pressure events.
Oddly enough, I've noticed certain drugs like over the counter sleep aids can also trigger my hip, shoulder, and chest pain/arth
Diagnosed with A.S., DDD, scoliosis, sleep apnea -- Tested positive for HLA-B27 gene; family history; visible damage on x-ray; significant iritis; enthesitis inflammation; fatigue; feverish; peripheral arthritis; Osteopenia; heart, G.I., and skin symptoms - :: - Insidious and often disabling pain started in my teens & 20's with heel pain; chest pain and hip-buttock in my early 20's; low back pain in my late 20's; mid thoracic and cervical in my 30's. Biologics in my 40's. (On remicade)

My rheumatologist and I think my allergies may be a trigger.
That's because every summer is my worst flare, I mean really bad, a few summers were so bad I tore tendons or ligaments that took 1-3 years to heal up, got erythema nodosum, along with the usual symptoms. I've been on Humira now since June 2013 and last summer was the first time that the flare wasn't so bad. Hoping humira will help this summer even more.
I tend to flare rather significantly every ~3 months and so not sure what all my triggers are. Though in all cases, the flares are milder now on humira.
My rheumy and I have talked about allergy shots. He said they could help. Or they could make my body flare worse. Or no effect. Ha ha, ha. But I thought it was worth a try. So I went to see an allergist and got tested, but only dust mites and 2 molds came back positive and I know i'm allergic to pollens, a variety of chemicals too. So feel like the shots wouldn't even be addressing everything.

Spondyloarthropathy, HLAB27 negative Humira (still methylprednisone for flares, just not as often. Aleve if needed, rarely.) LDN/zanaflex/flector patches over SI/ice vits C, D. probiotics. hyaluronic acid. CoQ, Mg, Ca, K. chiro walk, bike no dairy (casein sensitivity), limited eggs, limited yeast (bread)

Thank you all for sharing your stories! Had no idea that allergy shots have the potential to make spondy things worse. Ugh!

Hey ashley,
I think that any change of weather can cause a flareup. This happens to me every spring and fall. It might be triggered by allergies or just barometric pressure changes.

I have horrific pollen allergy and have tried allergy shots with no effect.
High levels of TNF-alpha are both involved in AS inflamation and allergic rhinitis and asthma so YES allergy can make your AS symptoms worse as TNF-alpa levels rise during pollen season.
I have all three :(((
Humira has helped but some days I am really bad, struggling to breathe also I get severe eye irritation.
