Thanks for the replies guys ^,^ & sorry if i can't explain clearly due to lack of english vocabulary.
Allrighty!!!
yesterday i managed to make my head went above the water to breathe (breaststroke)

,not exactly sure if i was doing it right; i use my feet to push a bit downward about 2-3 times to help the body moving up and then paddle with the hands to go forward+above the water to take a breath. I still can't find the rythm though, most of the time i forgot which part of the limbs to move and then i just swim frantically like a drowning victim.
still need to work out the kinks, but i think i got the idea. use the feet/leg to push a little downward to help the body move upward and then use the hands to paddle and make the head rise to the surface
not sure if it can still be called breaststroke...and i'm pretty sure without context; i was just explaining how to do a rain dance to please the pool god
(to clarify: breaststroke is the one which you swim like a frog, right?)
OK it sounds like your curvature is similar to mine, although your flexibility may of course be different.
With freestyle, you should be rolling your whole body with your hips from side to side.
can't do freestyle, the rolling whole body (and neck) part won't work. I'm stiff as a log. tried freestyle, my head constantly stay below the surface and the water would get inside my ear >_<
your head should be in a relaxed position supported by the water and looking down. Imagine a line coming out of the top of your head pointing where you are going.
that's what i did, but have a hard time to arch my back and neck to look upward to take a breath
Interesting that you aren't getting up to air doing breaststroke. Would need to watch you to see why.
It sounds like one problem might be your head is too far down in the water
hmm, this is more likely
Remember that you aren't supposed to be coming up for air like Mount Vesuvius erupting. You only need half of your face out of the water
LOL
Also, when you are learning, start by coming up for air every stroke or 2nd stroke. You can then work up to every 3rd stroke. You don't want to make coming up for air into a 'big deal'.
the coming up with each stroke is the hard part, but with my "technique" >_< above, i use the feet (push about 2-3 times) to help me go up and then hand stroke/paddle for the air...still technically true then, go up for each stroke
....rotation of the torso, this is the reason freestyle is recommended for AS.
if only i can do that T_T to train and rotate my back (waist?) i normally hold to the pool ladder and stretch my back & try to rotate the waist.
Remember also that we are not swimming to beat Olympic records.
my life is a lie!!!

thanks for the video
I fiind freestyle very difficult and can't even imagine butterfly.
same here. and pls ignore my previous post about butterfly stroke, i mistaken it for breaststroke >_<
strokes that are still OK for me for the most part:
back stroke where you swim on your back.
i can't do backstroke...looks fun btw.
"freestyle" kick but using a paddle board to keep the head above water, but you can't use your arms that way, you just hold onto the paddle board.
I use a swim saddle . Your legs aren't involved as much but you can pretend you are on a bicycle and that works the legs .
I use my saddle all summer and the swim exercise is so good for our AS! http://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&key...z_b]swim saddle
yeah but then i won't get the sense of achievement of knowing how to swim

so, i'd say its partly because of your back and maybe partly because of your training.
yeah, and it's not just in swimming, in almost every mundane physical activity i often wonder if the things i can't do is caused by AS or it's normal physical limitation.
could you take some swimming instruction? but don't let anyone pressure you into doing anything that makes you feel more pain....you know your body.
nah, i'm afraid the instructor (knowing that i have AS) will take everything i do wrong as physical limitation caused by AS and let it be..and then it'd be just a waste of money.
so i'll just try again and again,at least i get the workout benefit along the way

and maybe in years to come the fancy doctors/scientists can make fully functional stem cell and CRISPR therapy to fix AS. Fingers crossed
thanks guys
