With all the talk about the great parties in Canada and Texas, I must admit that I'm just a tad bit jealous. With Winter closing fast, I'm starting to really feel sad and just wish I could get away from this boring office to some beautiful place. So I got to thinking (yes, my brain sometimes can still be capable of a few extra processes), and I thought how nice it would be to hear about each of your very own special places. It can be somewhere very close to you or somewhere very far away that you have only visited once. The point is, I want to hear the details so I can take numerous virtual get-aways without even leaving my desk. You can tell the name of the place, or like I'm about to do, just tell the details and leave the name of the place to the imagination of others.

My favorite place is a beautiful park tucked into the folds of rounded green mountains (or some might even call them hills). A frothy stream of crystal, ice-cold water runs behind a few cabins, where, even from your bed at night, you can still hear the sound of the rushing water. If you follow upstream, you reach a breath-taking cascade some 700 feet in height. From its base you can follow a trail upward about a third the way to the top. All along this trail of gold you feel just like you are at one with nature, truly at peace, with the sound of the water, the birds, the wind. You might even feel the mist of the waterfall against your face, from time to time. And if you look closely, you will probably see all those other little souls who are enjoying the beauty of this magical place, like the squirrels and even a brave chipmunk or two. Finally you reach a landing at the very base of the main waterfall, where you can just sit for hours wondering at the majesty of life. And if you are lucky enough, as I once was, to be with the one you love, well, you will certainly wonder if heaven, itself, could be anymore perfect than this little spot in the forrest beneath the magnificant falls.

Hi Johnny, what a wonderful idea!

I'm in Norway right now, and just yesterday we had our first snowfall for the winter season.....and that brings me to my favourite place in the world:
In the north of Norway, way beyond the Artic Circle, we have a region here called Troms. It is a wonderful, wild and beautyful region, with a lot of polar wildlife and an amazing nature scenery.
It is a virtually unhabitated place, with just one major town, Tromso, and only some small fisher's villages by the coast.
It is absolutely like another world, visiting that place in the wintertime. The sun doesn't even get all the way up over the horizon, just barely lighting the place up at midday. In the nighttime there is an amazing Aurora Borealis (Northern Light), and a gigantic nightsky full of stars. And that is heaven to me, since I spend most of my nights gazing at the stars anyway...

I have found some pics of Troms, and one of the Aurora:

That is truly an awe-inspiring place! The picture of the aurora is extremely beautiful. I also love stargazing and used to be an avid amateur astronomer! My neck bothers me so much now that I don't spend as much time at my telescope as I used to. Well actually I look down into its eyepiece, but I still have to look up to find the stars, planets, etc. in the first place. It is nice to talk to another stargazer, though. Thanks for sharing!

I have several favourite places close to home, but the place I enjoyed the most is Cancun Mexico and I really hope I am able to visit there again.....just wish I could drink the tequila as it was my favourite drink.

My favorite place is Kauai, Hawaii. This is the western most island in The Hawaiin Islands. It is lush, green, montainous and beautiful. Great scuba diving, great beaches and even greater hiking. There is a canyon that rivals the Grand Canyon which is breathtaking. And the sunsets are amazing. Truly an amazing peaceful place. If you are ever looking for a place to go on vacation, I recommend it highly!

Hi Johnny,

I think an ideal place must be relaxing.... and I never felt more relaxed than Memorial Day Weekend canoe trips in Southwestern, WI. We would put in close to where the Wisconsin river empties into the Mississipi.... we would canoe 1/4 mile up the Wisconsin River and that is the last we heard any cars or saw any homes. A group of us would load down our canoes for 3 days to canoe and have fun..... We would take a break 2-3 times a day from paddling.... we would pop up a volleyball net on one of the sand dunes in the middle of the river to play, toss a frisbee or swim in the river.

About 5pm we would look for a camp sight on a nice sand dune and pop our tents for the night. Cook a nice dinner over a camp fire and sit and talk until we went to bed.

Not a thought of work, paying bills or lifes worries all weekend..... so peaceful, so relaxing. That to me is as close to heaven I have come on this planet.

Tim

Ok Johnny, this is a good one. And you know how I used to love to ask and answer questions so this is fun for me.

At the present time my life is really wierd. So I am going to give an obvious, kind of funky answer.

I haven't been to very many places in my life time, but I do have to say right now my favorite place on earth is KICKAS!!

What can I say? It's the truth! (I think I need to get out more....)

Maybe I'll come up with an actual place that isn't "cyber' later on. HeeHee!

Nice exercise for me right about now. Need to think about nonwork stuff and non AS nagging new aches sort of stuff.

My favorite place depended upon my state of health. As a kid it was without a doubt a baseball field. Anytime night or day. My clothes alwways seemed to be adorned with a coating of the brickdust soil that covered an infield or pitchers mound. I didn't need a game or anyone to toss too. A bag f bals some solitude and time working on a curveball or accuracy was as much fun as a game.

Any golf course with par 5 of about 490 yards that was just out of my reach in two but always reachable in mhy heart was next favorite place until about 5 years ago when shoulder got worse so that learning to golf with out much distance became my game. But it was always so much fun on a nice fairway with a bunker or tow to believe I could get a ball that 240 or so to the green when I never could. The trying was the fun and the dream.

Now its my couch with the girls crawling aobut or more aptly rolling. If it had to be a place I would opt for a hiking trail on the North Shore of Kauai just me and Di and the threat of a rain brewing above the Ocean below of a particular cliff I recall in my mind's eye.

Thanks Johnny.

My favorite place to be is at home....in front of the computer.

BUT...it's how I get there that's important!

I love the days in Pennsylvania when it's snowing SO bad that even the malls close (right, Mike?). Two feet outside and it's still coming down....but it's so quiet and soft.

So...it's like that outside, and I have just gotten a long HOT bubble bath (using one of various bubble bath scents by Bath and Body ). After that I've smeared my whole self with scent-matching lotion. THEN I dipped my hands and feet in my little paraffin wax spa and they are TOASTY warm .

I put on my soft warm fleece PJ's and my fuzzy socks and Isotoner bedroom slippers, and wrap myself in about three fleece blankets. Then I nuke some milk in the microwave and make myself some hot chocolate with the BIG marshmallows.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaahh......*head drops to keyboard*....zzzzzzzz.....

(now, don't think I wouldn't like to go to Cancun or see the Aurora Borealis...because I would.....I'm thinking total comfort here!! )
