Zark, Fiona, i've been in a slight slide into pain for two weeks so i started using a Cook Islands brand noni as it was in a smaller and therefore cheaper form.
First dose my back was better (5 down to 3) and second dose my neck less stiff (6 down to 4) - see what happens long term.
I'd say from reputation alone that the stuff does something for pain ( a light-hearted "testimonial" follows), but all the outrageous claims and panacea stuff is a bit dubious - the huge industry and cost is off-putting.
And is preservative, pastuerized or fermented the best? Well that depends on whichever product the sales-person represents. Same goes for Tahitian, Hawain or Cook Island strains. So little science so much hype.
Also, those polysaccharides are of real NSD/LSD concern - numb away the pain, but possibly cause more to be generated? Bit like NSAIDs! Bit like Nicotine or Opiates!
If true, then no wonder the pain returns as soon as one stops taking it. As i said before, i'd be very interested in an extract......

All the best if it works well for you.
One more thing - i have a strong gut feeling that one should not not mix it with alcohol.
Interested in any info on the Malaysian fermentation process - as long as it does not end up smelling like belachan!

"Borrowed" from sailor/songster Dan Peek - DRIFTIN AND TALES FROM THE LOST ISLANDS...
In reply to:

Froot Joose - Although I'm not a total adherent to the all-natural lifestyle, I do confess that I love fruit juice and fruit-juice related products. In the islands grows a tree called variously, pain tree, noni or cheesefruit. You may call it ugly fruit or use it to polish your floors, it makes no difference to me, but the natives would line up at the fence asking for it. At the corner of an old water cistern grew such a tree with an abundance of fruit. Week after week we picked up buckets of this strange fruit and gave it away, the more we picked off the more it gave out. Now here's the strange part: it stank like cheese, hence our desire to rid ourselves of it. The first hint of the fruit was actually pleasant, a mix of coconut and pine, but as the odd-shaped gnarly, hairy green fruit began to ripen, the smell changed to something strangely akin to an ill-used diaper-pail. Yet, the natives regarded it with great respect, claiming that to drink its juice would render one pain free. Apparently the taste was at least as offensive as the smell, yet the juice sold for a small fortune in the village health store. David DeMontagnac, our dear Jamaican neighbor told us it was also used to polish floors and how he remembered riding his housekeeper like a Toy Horse as a lad whilst she ground the fruit into the heart of mahogany floors to make them shine like glass, grinding and polishing the slimy fruit down deep into the grain with the fibrous half of a dried coconut husk. Anyway that's the story of the noni-fruit. This song is actually about pineapple juice.

Here is a great article that reviews the available literature about noni juice:
Morinda citrifolia (Noni): A literature review and recent advances in Noni research
Best to right click and save the document to your hard drive - far less hassles that way.

Thanks for that Zark. Busy Printing....
Still having good progress with your Noni? It gets better the longer you are on it and if you steadily increase it. Have a few books and booklets on how to use it. miss it heaps, though it's still like the pot at the end of the rainbow....

Have vehicle troubles and other debts to clear and ill mother to deal with before I can get back on juice. Distributorship has lapsed due to "inactivity". There are also smart extracts (hoping to try the heart and the joint supplements). Dislike taking pain killers for breaky and dislike eating early. Strangely I like the tropical smoothie for breaky with 1 raw egg. (Don't like tropical drinks as a rule).

This is absolutely terrific. Support and information after years of ignorance

Thanks yet again
Cheers

Hi Fiona,

I got in contact with the owner of the Health Food Shop I mentioned to clarify why it was no longer available. The response:

The product was taken off the market because of the 'Novelty Food' Act. Apparently, and I'm not completely clear about it now, but noni juice did not have any background/evidence for makers to be able to make claims for it. I believe there is a cut-off date for products and, as I mentioned, the criteria was not met and there is no substance in the claims 'within Europe'. However, the product may have beneficial properties but because of the European legislation - UK and European manufacturers are supposedly not permitted to sell noni juice. That is how I understand it.

It'll be interesting to see if and when the UK takes on board current research, but presumably they'll be excluding the 'research' that cites "This article must therefore be hereby marked advertisement in accordance with 18 U.S.C. Section 1734 solely to indicate this fact." at the bottom of it?? (Just a guess )

It's great that you have so much faith in it, but why put your life on hold whilst waiting for it? Make the most of what you do have available to you right now, and take the pain killers Fiona. Life's too short.

Take care,

Jan

Well, I have some good news fore you

The fact is is you wont find TNJ in any shop anywhere. What you could find are people who work in shops or therapies who are independent distributors.

There are hundreds of competitors out there getting on the bandwagon who don't have the scientific laboritories nor the years of research that Tahitian Noni International has. Nor the quality assurance and control processes from start to finish. The volcanic soil in French Polynesia produces Noni 20% higher in nutrients than anywhere else. They also do extracts and other Noni products.

Unfortunately, my other computer crashed and I don't have the details of a lady in London. I can get them from her old boss (Aus) and email/post them to you.

It is possible to order TNJ via internet or fax in the UK. It is US$185/$189 for 4 bottle case and includes taxes and delivery to your door.

Shall get back to you.

Cheers

Fiona, if you actually started to sound less like a bad avert and more like someone who actually gave a sh*t (without thinking that this requires forking out $$$$$/£££££ on a product with dubious claims) you might actually get some credibility from me.

I don't want your Noni.

I don't want hard sell/ soft sell/ ANY salesperson speak.

Kinda reminds me of a time there was a medical rep who didn't get the feedback he wanted for his supposed GREAT product which in actuality staff and patients hated, he actually offered to give us some for free (were £2K a piece) but I said nooooooo way. Some people just don't take the hint.

$189??? You're having a laugh!!!!!

Maybe I took a leap of faith in trying the NSD but it WORKS.

As for Noni, besides having zero motivation to try it, I have completely zero inclination to part with my hard earned cash to try something which allegedly only one company can produce effectively. (Yeah, righty. I'm soooooooo convinced )

(Hmmmm, methinks I better quit before I start mimicking firing off guns whilst yelling "BANDIDO!!!!")

Take care,

Jan

The flame wars really have started ? *sigh*...

I really dont think there is any excuse for being rude, particularly when someone is just trying to help.

Although I think we would both agree in this respect: I find pyramid selling schemes and agressive marketing distasteful. And I also get annoyed with, and doubt, claims that a particular brand like "Tahitian Noni Juice" (TNJ) is the better than all other brands

At least one company has behaved rather badly. Morinda Inc. have used agressive marketing, including email spamming. And you know very well that this behaviour is a nail in the coffin for any future research. Researchers will from now on be tainted with fear of associating themselves with an undesirable image.. and possible loss of credibility.

But why should I care about the behaviour of one or two companies. Who cares?. It is not actually relevant. Why?, because it does not help us, in any way, to decide if the noni juice is effective or not. This is after all what Fiona's thread is really about.

If you do not want noni juice, then why are you here? To blow hot air..?? At least offer constructive criticism, please.

I have seen several new users treated this way before, and it does not impress me much at all !

As for your argument about price.. You know very well that many people spend enormous amounts of money on the latest DMARD drugs. Far more than I am spending on noni juice (about UK$1.6 a day). And, you should also know that these expensive DMARD's can have disastrous effects on our bodies (eg: chronic infection, loss of bone marrow, death, etc)

Anyway, I have no need to buy TNJ's product. I simply buy a different brand, which is also much cheaper. In australia you can buy noni for about US$26 a litre (or 16 UK pounds)

I am not saying that the NSD is no good, but it is not for me - at least not for the moment. And it certainly is not something that works for everyone, nor something that everybody can stick to. I tried it myself, and I found it difficult. I started losing wight (very bad in my case). And worse, I earned the scorn of my sister (a doctor).

Whilst the NSD failed me (or perhaps I failed it), Noni juice has worked great for me over the last 2 weeks. I sleep well, and can even get up and out of bed without any agony.
