Stacie,
Peeved or not, your "Get a job!" comment was completely out of line and just as offensive, if not more so, than the comment you were complaining about. Many, many KA members would absolutely LOVE to get a job, but you know what? They can't because their AS is simply too painful and/or deforming to allow them to do any kind of work. How do you think those people feel when you cavalierly tell another member to "GET A JOB"? I think you can guess.
Karen's question was a valid one that has been asked here many times before,. It's been established for a long time that warm water aquatherapy is one of the best treatments for AS, so why shouldn't we expect our insurance companies to pay for a hot tup or similar device? As other posters here have pointed out, a one-time expense for a home hot tub is infinitely cheaper that repeatedly paying for physical therapy year after yaer, but the insurance companies remain shortsighted and fail to see that.
Do I think that Karen's post could have done without that last line about wheelchairs? Sure I do, as it was poorly worded and came off sounding kind of whiny; at the very least, it incorrectly distracted from a completely valid post and changed the tone of what Karen was asking. As she has since posted, she's very sorry that she said it the way she did, and that she definitely meant no harm. I do undedrstand how you, and others, could have been offended by what she said, but please try not to let that one line distract from the validity of the rest of her post--just as I'll try not to let your comment distract from the value of what you were saying in the rest of your post.
I guess the bottom line is that the old adage "two wrongs don't make a right" is, as always, dead on the mark here, and that answering what you perceive to be a bad comment with a bad comment of your own doesn't really help further the mission of Kick AS, so I hope you would think before making such comments in the future.
Thanks,
Brad
