I take narcotic pain relievers. I have asked several of my doctors why anyone would want Vicodin or the other meds if they didn't need it. I just didn't make sense to me because when I take them, I'm alert and there certainly is no high. The docs say pretty much what that chapter said, "If you are taking narcotics for pain, you don't get the effects that people are looking for when they use it illicitly. The one I had the biggest problem with was a duragesic pain patch. It shut down my intestines, resulting in an embarassing ER visit, wouldn't let me think and I saw my granddaguhter standing in my room two mornings in a row and she was living in Texas and I in New York. Sure did take the pain away though.
