Hi all,

It is sad to hear that one of the worlds most dedicated animal activists Steve Irwin the crocodile hunter passed away off byron bay whilst filming a documentary. He was struck by the barb of a stingray which pierced his left side of the chest killing him.
He is very much loved Home here in Asutralia and I am in disbelief at the sad news of the courageous mans passing. He did for animals what Elvis I feel has done for music.
All my prayers are now with his wife and children,
May the light hold his soul and the love care for his family

i'm so sorry to all his loved ones
with tears in my eyes

Hey Sal,

it was not off Byron Bay. That is too far south. The accident occurred off the Great Barrier Reef out of Port Douglas. It was at a reef known as Batt Island.

Personally, I did not like Steve Irwin, but that is because I do not think that he epitomises the Aussie style. Most of us do not go around saying "Crikey". However, that does not mean that I am not impressed with the dedication that he had to his family. He was the epitome of a true and loving family man.

The accident was shocking because he had absolutely no chance of survival, since the fin went right through his heart. The toxin that was released would have been immediately deadly.

I would not call Steve Irwin an animal activist. On the other hand, he had a love of animals and the environment that is very rare. That love was his life's work.

My sympathy goes to Terri and the children who have been deprived of husband and father.
