Lisa - Very sorry to hear about Ryan and Tori being both unwell. Urinary tract infection is common in cats who are fed a dry food diet. Can also infect wet food diet fed cats but not as often. Therefore, when you get Ryan home I would suggest that you get him onto wet food. In fact raw food, meat, is the best ever! But that would have to be introduced gradually... Start off with lightly cooked food. Give oily fresh fish - fresh mackeral, sardines, herring are all excellent. Cook lightly. Make light stews with scraps of chicken, turkey thigh, lamb shank (whatever) but better to dice up yourself as those industrial grinding machines often leave a mettalic taste to the ground up food (cats will 'notice' whereas the human not!) cook with a little vegetable: some grated carrot, a touch of whatever greens you have to hand. Cook altogether in a little filtered or bottled water.
Ensure water always available, filtered or bottled water. Water from the tap will (possibly) contain fluorides and also chlorine. Cats are partic sensitive to chlorines and very possible that your cat was not drinking enough. Collect rainwater, filter through an old pop sock (whatever) and that is also good - first, catch your rain!
Hope that was helpful and that Ryan is soon home on the mend, ready for big cuddles from Tori and of course that Tori is well real soon.
Molly
