I'm so sorry for your loss. Knowing she was alone and hurt for days must be hard, especially for your wife.
You always here in the news about some elderly person who had been gone for a few days and nobody knew. I think it's extremely important to know your neighbors and family and to make sure someone constantly checks on them...although if they outright refuse it that doesn't help.
I'll keep your family in my thoughts and prayers
