Objective evidence....hubby's CHF gets worse on Humira. It only took 2 months to undo what the cardiologist had managed to accomplish. He was hospitalized last month with an exacerbation of CHF. After 4 days, he was released and after another week of antibiotics, he resumed his MTX and Humira. In 5 days, his cough was back and his lungs were congested.
Rheumy agreed that Humira isn't for him. But it could be the MTX (he's taken that since February), so he has to stop both for 2 months, then restart the MTX. Next week, he has a cardiology recheck, along with a new echocardiogram.
Rheumy said also that while CHF can become worse on biologics, he has several patients that are doing quite well on them with no worsening of their symptoms. I just wanted to share our experience so the info will be here for others to search.
If neither of us is able to take the 4 doses of Humira we have in our fridge, I hope we can find a home for it here locally. And it's too bad we can't share our WBCs...he has plenty to share.
