Hi Shannon,
NSAID's have their place, and NSD'ers appreciate that they can be considered for short term help with a flare, but overall the best thing you can do for yourself and your AS is the diet. I was amazed when my pain level just dropped off, sleep became easy and my energy went through the roof, truly the best I'd felt since the whole thing started, and not needing any NSAID or other back up analgesia. It really has helped my general peace of mind too, I don't fear the future like I did once. It's not Mobic specifically that can cause damage, it's NSAID's in general. Sorry I scared you, never meant to traumatise you {{{{{hugs}}}}}
Learning about the LSD/NSD can be daunting, there is a lot of information out there but some of it can be conflicting. There are a couple of books that are recommended and are good to have, but by far the best thing is to join in at the NSD forum. Set up a new thread saying what you have here and you will get a whole lot of advice and expert knowledge (some of them really are guru's of this diet) and you'll get a loads of support and encouragement too.
The books I got are: Breaking the Vicious Cycle by Elaine Gottschall and Carol Sinclair's The IBS Starch-Free Diet.
But please Shannon go and post a new thread in the NSD section, it is the best thing ever for getting to grips with the whole thing. They know what it's like to start out and how overwhelming the info can be, you can ask anything at any time and you'll get great advice. It is definately the best way to start, having that back up makes it a whole less daunting.
See you in there!!!
Take care,
Jan
