Hi
(I haven’t posted in many, many years!)
I’d like to know how many of you have dental problems, cavities etc, and do you think this is related to AS? Have you any stories to tell?
I have had to have 2 extractions in the past 2 months and a 3rd tooth will probably end up the same way. I must say, I have always looked after my teeth, and having been a dental nurse in the last, I am aware of oral hygiene!
(I am dubious about the dentist I had been seeing over the last 4 years, and I have had to move practices. The new dentist has been doing all the remedial work suddenly required.)
It seems the recent teeth to have had issues, have begun to decay from the inside out. The root/nerve is attacked, the bulk of the tooth is absorbed, and I end up with a shell. Teeth don’t seem to decay in the usual way, on the surface of the tooth, where decay can creep in.
I’ve never experienced toothache, only sporadic sensitivity and jaw pain, TMj etc, and I have always mentioned this to (previous) dentist, who never investigated.
Also, with each piece of dental work, I am experiencing a flare up in my AS symptoms. which is starting to get me down. 😒
