When I ruptured the L/4-L/5 and had two other lumbar discs bulging cauda equina syndrome was a real worry, but fortunately I dodged that bullet. According to my rheumy the nerves in some part (I've forgotten exactly which part) of the lumbar spine control bowel and bladder control and if they are pinched due to stenosis or a rupture, cauda equina can be the result. I lost the use of my right leg for a few weeks, the phantom limb, hurt like h#@@ but when I tried to stand on it it was like I had no leg at all! Got around by using a crutch, wheelchair when available or little scooter in the supermarket. Thankfully it healed and I could walk again. Do you have areas of stenosis in your lumbar spinal area? I have a lot of mechanical damage to my spine due to years of untreated (undiagnosed!) inflammation.
Have you ever had an MRI to see if some of your problems are because of stenosis or other damage to your spine?
