If you want to use this QR code (Quick Response code) just save the image and paste it where you want. You can even print it and use it that way. Coffee cups, T-Shirts etc would all be good for the QR code.

Hi everyone
I have a question regarding weight loss. I have heard it can be a side affect to some NSAIDs and also a sympton of AS. I have always managed to stay at the same weight whether I wanted to or not for the past 8 months or so even when I exercised alot. I kept a steady weight of 143 pounds (I am 5'8). I was 143 last week and today I am 138. Could this be from the new NSAIDs I am now on? What has everyone else found regarding weight loss? I'm not complaining as I can stand to lose a few pounds, just wondering if its going to pile back on again one day.

Hello! I attribute my weight loss to the spondy monster. After my 3 yr old was born...I lost my weight in less than a month and the spondy went full blown. When I am in severe pain....I lose the weight. I've lost an extra five lbs ..past my old weight. I think because I was feeling so crappy again. I have not been on any NSAIDS, only Soma and Ultracet. I have had horrible reactions to any Nsaid I tried within a few days. I'd love to lose weight the old fashioned way, but I guess it's when you feel sick your appetite may not be so great. Take care! Buggy

Good question Jess. I have been wanting to post about this issue as well. I participate in a research study for AS, and every 6 weeks when I go in they do the usual weigh in. In under a year I have found that I have lost nearly 10 pounds without any effort on my part. My metablolism does burn the calories quick, and I can lose weight just by missing a meal. It is becoming a concern of mine because I am about 15 pounds under what my normal body weight should be.
I have also heard that this weight loss is a symptom of the AS too, but no matter how much I eat I can not keep the weight on.

I lost close to 10 lbs. when I switched from 8-12 Ibuprofen a day to one or two Ultracet earlier on this year. It was all water weight. I had terrible bloating and swelling I didn't even know about on NSAIDs. . Rox Because Happy Bunny 0\/\/|\|z and you know it.http://www.geocities.com/artisan1998.geo/index.html

Me too! When my first major back pain episode started a few years ago I lost about 10 lbs. Since then it has been a constant fight to maintain a constant weight... I force myself to eat even when I'm not hungry. I can't eat sugar, which makes it a lot harder to pig out on junk food! I've lost over 20 lbs since I was diagnosed (although I was undiagnosed 6 months later and have been going back and forth with doctors ever since--still no definite diagnosis). 'Erie :-)

I've noticed bouts of weight loss since my symptoms first became bad, some 8/9 years ago, which was before I used NSAIDS.
I've lost amost a stone with some 'episodes' of unexplained weight loss, yet I've never gone out of my way to lose weight, nor changed my eating habits.
With any particularly bad 'flare' I'll lose pounds. I think its usual for alot of people suffering this.

I think its from the AS! I used to have a huge appitite and now sometimes I have to force myself to eat. I think my appitite is gone because I feel so crappy most of the time.

Hi! I've lost weight too, a ittle more than 10 pounds at this point, and I'm not very big to start with. I think it is diet - no cow dairy and cutting way back on starches seems to limit what I can eat. Some of it could be AS I suppose. I don't want to lose too much or my clothes won't fit and I can't afford to go clothes shopping till after my boys graduate and get jobs. Good luck - Helen
