If you want to use this QR code (Quick Response code) just save the image and paste it where you want. You can even print it and use it that way. Coffee cups, T-Shirts etc would all be good for the QR code.

I was just wondering, i know I'm new to this thing and it can get worse, but I take no meds. I find them to have bad side effects and i feel they dont do much. If it has been proven that drugs do nothing to AS except to numb the pain, and I don't want to take them for that reason. I dont want to forget about the severity of this problem. But my pain threshold can only take so much and I was wondering if anyone has a drug free method of helping the pain aside from the obvious:Streching, massage ect

Sorry,
I could not make it thru the day without my meds, but I would love to know what other people do.

I take a bextra about once every ten days, and the occasional extra-Strenght tylenol for my head. I do have a very high pain tolerance, I am trying to do a lsd, no gluten, no dairy diet, and I have a very active job. If I am going to hurt it's when I am on my days off. I walk all day long, fixing things, cleaning things, activity really helps. I also take b-12, multi vit, and a bioflavin complex.
To sum it up, exercise, diet, and a few extra supplements.
I hope it stays this way for me (touch wood).

Hiya BillyBob, I am not officially diagnosed with anything, but I couldn't make work without Ultracet. What's good about it is I take it when I can't take the pain anymore, then I find I don't need it at all for maybe a day or two. This is unlike NSAIDs (like Advil and Aleve) which I pretty much needed to take constantly all day in massive quantities to keep up the pain relief properties. I can only kill the pain for now, because I am not diagnosed with inflammatory arthritis, so I don't get access to DMARDs. I've found the NSD too restrictive BUT it has made me aware of the things I eat so I could change things for the better. I found the more I move the better off I am (while using appropriate pain relief). I work on my feet all day so that keeps me active. Considering how much worse I feel every year, if I had a desk job for as long as I've been in retail I think I would have turned to solid stone by now. I encourage you NOT to underestimate the control pain has over your life when it's not treated. Needing meds to control pain doesn't make you a "bad" or "unhealthy" person. It makes you a pain-free person. But you have to find stuff that works and keep asking for different stuff until you find gold. I am no longer taking any medications for pain caused by AS. Periodic accupuncture takes care of my upper spine and shoulder pains and my farabloc cloth has taken away all the nerve pains I was having from my hips down to my toes. The only medication I have to take every day is digoxin which prevents my heart from going into arrhythmia and supplemental tears for my dry eyes. George

Hi BillyBob, I wasn't taking any pain meds (NSAID's) on a frequent basis for quite a few years, due to stomach probs, but I've just started Remicade treatment 10 days ago.
My advice to you is try to stay as mobile as possible & if you can live without medication then do so, your body will soon let you know when you need that extra help to get through.
Good luck & wishing you happy pain free days!
George.
Together we'll beat AS!

I stopped taking my meds 3 months before I conceived. I'm now almost 6 months pregnant. Pregnancy hasnt 'halted' my pain, but I'm dealing with everything.
Previously though, I only took occasional Lodine or Vioxx when I was too stiff to move normally, or in a 'flare'. I certainly didint take it daily, as recommended.
I am careful about doing my stretches and light exercise. As they say, move it, or fuse it!!
Others do well on the LSD/NSD, but for me, I eliminate certain foods that I have found out to be aggravating for my symptoms. Because of this, I'm certainly in much better 'condition' than say 2 years ago.
Cheers
Amber
