If you want to use this QR code (Quick Response code) just save the image and paste it where you want. You can even print it and use it that way. Coffee cups, T-Shirts etc would all be good for the QR code.

Hey David
I have been walking the dog daily and have started yoga. I try to keep active all day but I'm sure I should be exercising more. I've just heard there is a pool at the rivrside hospital in Ottawa - for Arthritis patients. That is the hospital I'm going to see the rheumy at in a couple of weeks so maybe I can get accsess to the pool. That would be awesome.
Thanks David
Maggie

Hi Janet You are still suffering with Iritis ? Poor you - this is really taking a long time. Interesting that your bone density was up because of fusion. How did they know this was the reason ? Does the fusion show on the density test ? Lord, I hope I don't have to have IV therapy. Where do you have to go for that ? I hope your eyes are at least feeling better than they were. Spring will soon be here - surely we'll all pick up a little then Maggie

Hi Rene I also prefer not to use meds or supplements if I don't have to but I'm sure she'll try to sock 'em to me. The idea of the med decreasing pain also is very interesting although nausea isn't I have beem overdosing on milk for about 6 weeks or so now. I wonder if the results would have been even worse if I hadn't done this. I realise that my diet was probably sadly lacking in calcium for many years now. I should have known better and now I'll have to smarten up. I should certainly exercise more too. Funny, how we know we should be doing better with our diets and exercise and yet we presume we'll get away with it !!!!!!!!!!!!! Maggie

Well, if you're pulling for the Senators Tim - then all is right with the world You are pulling for a winning team ya know It's funny but a few weeks before the doc ordered this test, I had started to worry about calcium. I began drinking goats milk and making my own yogurt with it. It has live cultures in it and I have been eating it by the TON. I'm pretty sure this might have saved me from getting even worse results. I should be consuming equal to 5 cups milk per day and I was nowhere close to that previously. Now I am drinking milk and eating yogurt like it was going out of style. I hope I can increase the density this way instead of taking anything else but I'm sure the doc will insist on something. I should take some vit. D for sure and I should excercise more. I'll work on it all. Maggie

Me too. The first dr started me on miacalcin. The second stopped it. The third started me on actonel. The fourth stopped it. I guess all the meds are for post-menopausal osteoporosis, and I'm not a post-menopausal 23-year-old! I never had any side-effect troubles though.
Definitely keep up the calcium and vit D in the diet (although that's more of a long-term thing, not a quick fix) and supplements. I guess you can only absorb 500 mg of calcium at a time, so you should take it a few times a day rather than all at once. No one ever told me that part... Weight-bearing exercise (within reason!!!) is also important for maintaining bone density/strength. I can't do a lot of that with my wheelchair and dislocating joints.
'Erie :-)

Hi Erie
I am spreading it out through the day. It'll be interesting to see what the doc suggeats. Then in a couple of weeks I go to the rheumy - that will be even more intersting.- see if they both say the same thing.
I have been working with my husband a lot ( carpentry ) so I have actually been doing more physical activity than in years gone by. I do find it very gruelling though and it is obviously not enough so it is going to be tricky to do more. Like I said - I'll keep on trying.
Thanks Erie

Hi Maggie.. Sorry you flunked.. I know I have osteo in my upper back but have never been tested. I know my OB/Gyn offers bone density testing there at the office and have considered taking it. Was there a particular reason the doc ordered it? Or was it your Rheumy that ordered it? I hope the meds help out with it as I too have heard with early detection it helps you greatly.... hugs]] Buggy
