Thanks for the good info, WindRider. I need to remember to take my Ca/Mg supplement.

Subligual B-Total is a liquid that you put under your tongue so can't have any starches. It bypasses the gut for the most part when it is absorbed from under the tongue, so even people with gut issues can get the B vitamins they need.

I read labels in the health food store and find my supplements with the long list of what isn't in them as Jan mentioned.

Good luck,

Hey Tim,

Do you take the probiotics on a regular basis or only occasionally when you feel that you really need them?

Hi Ann,

Thanks for you hug and encouraging words! I made it through the 3 days of apple fasting (I sit at the table, eating my apples and thinking, "hmmm, maybe chocolate dipped apples or apples smeared with almond butter would taste really good . . . " But I didn't succumb! I am very glad that I'm done with the apples, though!!

I'm feeling much better than when I first posted on Thursday night. I'm still having a "hitch" in my left SI joint/hip and some lumbar achiness, and I'm still feeling really tired (but that might be because of the fasting). I'm planning to begin a strict NSD tomorrow with a fresh start. The encouraging words from EVERYONE has been so helpful!

Paula

Thanks Wind Rider, Jan and Ann, for all the info on vitamins/supplements. I definitely am going to add magnesium and a B complex. The idea that low magnesium and a higher fructose diet combined can result in greater calcium loss is scary. Something I want to avoid, and if it helps with cravings and food control because it's balancing things out -- all the better! It's interesting to think of cravings as mineral cravings, but it makes a lot of sense.

Thanks, thanks, thanks for all your help!

Paula

Hi Paula,

I take twice daily now prior to every meal when doing well. If in a flare I will step back at times to sort things out.

Read a book, "Probiotics Nature's Internal Healers" by Natasha Trenev that really turned me on to probiotics and ensure that I buy a decent product.

The book is very good overall... but even has a small blurb how to handle different diseases through probiotic supplementation... even AS.

Her recommendations...

Eliminate/reduce bread, pasta, cereals, rice, potatoes and sugary foods (sound familiar)
Probiotic regimen:
Probiotic with L. Acidoplilus, B. bifidum and L. blugaricus 3 times daily prior to meals (10-30 minutes prior). If capsule ensure in oil-matrix

Hope that helps,

Tim

do not beat yourself up about getting sick and tired of being sick and tired. cut yourslef some slack. This pain is so insanely hard to live with. You cope with the day to day of getting through the physical minutes and then when you get a respite the mental game takes over. It is rough and you are a trooper

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to let you know that, after having apple fasted and getting back to a strict NSD, I have been feeling really, really good again. I still have some very slight (what I call) residual stiffness -- but it really is very slight -- almost not noticeable. I spent the day at Kings Island in Cinncinati yesterday -- and could do whatever I wanted to do. I wouldn't have been able to do that the night I first posted this thread.

Thanks for the encouragement you gave, and for providing a wonderfully safe space of accountability for me!! I do love this forum, and I love the NSD!!

Paula
