trust me when i say... i had plenty of extra pounds to shed. around the holidays i weighed just under 200 pounds. i weighed in this morning at 161. i'd have to go back to 1983 to find a time when i weighed less than i do now. of course i like being thinner (A LOT)!

i just wanted to throw it out to you guys... have you had rapid weight loss?? do you know why? did you gain it back? i know oldgeorge struggles to maintain his weight... anyone else have trouble keeping enough weight on?? (i hope it's ok i talked about you george)

skinny hugs to all!
teddi

ps... i didn't want to taint the results, but the weight loss does coinside, to a degree, with taking Methotrexate

Hey Teddi, when I'm in an extended and really bad flare, I shed weight like a dog sheds fur during molting season. Two years ago, I was down to 132lbs (I'm 5'9.5") and looked like a rake. Everyone was worried that I'd stopped eating. I hadn't. I was eating as much as usual, but for some reason the weight just drops off me sometimes. I've gone back up to about 147 and am maintaining it there, thankfully.

You are definitely not alone in this.

Hugs,

Kat

Teddi, I hate the word "fat", I prefer to think of myself as "Zoftig". . .which is a yiddish word that means "sensually plump". They doubled my methotrexate last week and I am down 8 pounds in one week. Yeah!!! I hope it continues. It seems to be one of the only positives associated with all this "stuff". . .besides the wonderful people I am getting to know on this site. Becky

hey darlin'

thanks for the vocabulary lesson... i love that kind of thing!

it sure is hard to worry about weight loss, when all i've ever worried about is gain. and don't feel any worse in general.

Zoftig Hugs,
teddi

Hi

When I was 'young' in the early days I did lose alot of weight quite quickly when in a flare, but it doesnt happen much anymore. (Which is a shame really, as I still have some baby weight to lose some 14 months after the event lol... .....)

I think the last time I lost weight was about 2 years ago. About 11lbs in 2 weeks.
I have no idea why; I think I was eating normally....

Yes,

It still is a struggle Teddi. But I am going upward but at a very slow rate. In Feb, 2004, I had gained and found I was up to 120 lbs. Then I had surgery and weighed 104 lbs when I got out of the hospital.

Over the last 16 months, I have worked my weight up to 114 lbs, all muscle of course.
Almost wish I did like beer.

Sorry, it's my cookie break right now.

I always considered it "famine proof." I lost 40 lbs the old fashioned way-exercise and changing the diet.

When I first began the diagnosis process in Dec. 2004, the doc put me on my current meds-Naproxen 500mg BID and Nexium 40mg to protect the tummy. I found myself going to sleep all the time but I didn't feel hungrier. I gained about 3 - 5 lbs back (not happy with that) and it started to come off again when I started the LSD.

So in a way my meds did cause me to gain some weight at the start, but now that I'm used to them I'm functioning quite well and am back on track.

I think we should start a donation site for George, where we can donate our extra pounds to George and he can take all that he would like. I'd like to start by contributing 10 lbs-any other givers out there?

Blessings, Sigrid
