Dear Karen...
I am just crying for you right now. As a fellow mom who also adores her kids (and has passed the AS forward) I can so understand your heartache. Please keep the faith. At this moment this is the most important thing you can do. I think that it is altogether possible that depression is a byproduct of this disease. This is not really Jason, it is not really who he is. I hope that he can understand this.
The addresses are written. The stationary is at hand. It is the first thing on my "to do" list tomorrow.
My prayers are with you. Aloha nui loa and Malama Pono.

Karenmae,
I've just written to both of your children. They will go out in the mail tomorrow morning.

My heart goes out to you, I see how much your hurting and how afraid you are. There's nothing worse for a parent than to see your kids going through hard times. I want you to know that this is not your fault. The fact that they have AS is something that is totally out of your control. You have enough to deal with right now, please don't beat up on yourself.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to be of some small help to you and your children. Please take care of yourself and let us know how things are going.

Hey Karen,

You are inspiring for reaching out for help with your son. Is it possible to help him seek professional care for depression? I know having one more doctor added to our long list is dauting but this sounds imperative. We're out to save his life here.

I'm looking at the pic of your family on my wall as we've engaged personal info before. My apologies for dropping the ball and not keeping you current on my addy change. Will pm you with new.

Have noted the addresses and will post a short note of encouragement.

My concerns also cover your well being. Please be kind to yourself in this stressful time.

as always,
love,
Klem

Karen, my heart just about broke as I read your post. I am printing off the kids' addies and will get something out to them ASAP.

As for your son, please get him to a hospital and into treatment for depression ASAP. If you can, of course. The despair he is feeling sounds as tho it's overwhelming him and perhaps they can get him onto an anti-depressant. When his emotional pain begins to ease, so will his physical pain - not completely, but some. They have recently announced that physical pain is one symptom of bad depression. And depression is one symptom of chronic physical pain. And all of this is probably keeping him from sleeping, which just makes it all that much worse. Your son is in a loop and the loop needs to be broken. Right now, his depression is the thing of most concern and it must be treated.

Also, I encourage you to get in touch with your local chapter of the Arthritis Foundation. As I understand it, they have social workers and counsellors, not to mention physio and occupational therapists. They may also be able to help your kids learn ways of easing their pain without meds. These techniques do not get rid of the pain, but help you work through it a little more easily.

Karen, you and your family are in my heart and prayers.

Many hugs,

Kat

Dear Karen,

My hart goes out for you. I froze while reading your post.
Please have some more believe and optimism for your sun, be his biggest support, he someone to fight for his CHILDREN, the biggest reason for life.
Some professional help would be necessary for his depression if he is so low.
There are thousands of people round the globe that are living and fighting AS, some of us are invalids, but still have a productive life.

I will send the letters, it will probably take some time to get there (I am In Croatia/ Europe)

Wish you all the best
Stay strong
