I have had symptoms of AS for 10+ yrs and was finally diagnosed last month. For some reason, my lymph node in my neck on the right side got severely swollen and at the same time my back and SI joint started having problems too. When the swelling in my neck went down, so did the AS symptoms. Then the swelling came back and I started hurting again. My doctor doesn't think it's related - just wanted to know if anyone had this or if this is something else....It just started doing this last Friday.

Hi!
A couple of years ago my lymph node on the left side of my neck swelled rapidly - and off to the doctor I went, like most people I became rather worried. The doctor ordered an ultrasound - and it was 8cms in diameter, but apparently was nothing to worry about. I was told if it grew more I was to come straight back but it still shrinks and expands, but has never ever gotten much bigger. Why it does this is a bit of mystery to me!

I believe that lymph nodes get inflammed when they are fighting off an infection somewhere in the body. It would make sense that they get big while a flare is going on because that's basically what the symptoms of our AS is, our body thinking it's fighting a real infection/virus/bacteria etc. when it's really attacking our joints.

Thanks for the response! I went to the doctor today about it and got the "I don't know...." answer. The doctor did order a blood test to rule out something serious.

Thanks for the reply. I'm happy to know that this has happened to someone else. The doctor did blood tests, but hopefully it's just something not so serious like yours.

i had a similar experience. it was right under my arm. i went to see my ob doc because i had to get an ultrasound and he said it was normal when your body is fighting off an infection. he said if the lymph nodes swell up usually at that time or within a couple of days you have a cold or infection your body is fighting off. once it subsides it's gone. that was a relief as i thought the worse as well!

hope doc gets some answers for you and take care!

I just wanted to say hello to you and ask, where in Washington are you. I live in Spokane. There are a few others here in Washington that visit this site.

I live in Vancouver. My brother lives in Spokane, though. If I come up to visit him, may be nice to meet someone else dealing with AS. Since I was just diagnosed, don't know anyone personally dealing with this yet and I have LOTS of questions. This site has been very helpful in answering some of my questions.
