If you want to use this QR code (Quick Response code) just save the image and paste it where you want. You can even print it and use it that way. Coffee cups, T-Shirts etc would all be good for the QR code.

Hi Janet
I have 3 home built computers. My computer was the last I built for the home. I really couldn't afford to build them today. I have had no problems with them. If I wanted to, I could overclock the system for gaming, but I really not into a lot of games.
My son, whom I just built a new system for had owed a HP system, before his latest one. The company had provided him with a recovery disk. If his system ever went down he just stuck the recovery disk in and he was back up and running. He owed this system for 7 years.
Likely in the future I will build a new up to date system for myself, but I am quite satisfied with my system as it is at the moment.

I have a computer that's been upgraded I don't know how many times. No brand name though. One thing when looking to buy a new system is to perhaps wait until after January when Vista enabled machines are offered. If you buy one now with Windows XP make sure there's a clause where you can upgrade for free when Vista ships (I'm pretty sure it's right at the end of January). To last more than a few years I'd look at getting an Intel dual core chip, 2 GIG memory and a large hard drive. It will have a DVD drive and a sound card and an up to date video card (as opposed to on board audio and video). Also, ensure you get an install disc with your purchase, very important. I've helped friends get a Dell and they are happy with the company. I have one of their monitors, 24", and am in video heaven.
Good luck,
Timo

Just purchased HP laptop for moving to Argentina, but prior to that owned Dell that was couple years old and loved it.

Thanks, Lori. I've heard good things about Dell computers. That's what we have at work, and they seem to work ok. What about their tech support? Have you used it? Did you call on the phone, or can you access it on-line?

Not good enough? I find that hard to believe. I don't have any friends who are computer savvy enough to build me one. We do have a local computer store that will do that, but I hesitate to go that route because from time to time I need tech support and I'd like to have it available to me when I need it. I'm sort of computer challenged. I use it all day at work, and also at home, and I know how to do the things I use, but when it comes to fixing a problem or knowing how it works, I'm at a loss. I guess my brain just doesn't work that way.

Thanks Possi. Have you used the Dell tech support? If so, was it user friendly and did they help? I keep threatening to adopt a teenager so I would have someone in the house that could be on call 24/7. Not that I need it all that often, but I want it to be there when I do need it.

Thanks for the help. I'm still using Windows 98, so I know what you mean.

Kathy & Paul. That's two for HP, thank you for the input. My best friend and her husband received a brand new HP for Christmas last year from their son. It's still sitting in the box, never been opened, because they don't know how to set it up and rather than pay someone to come and set it up for them, they have just kept using their old Gateway. It drives me nuts when I think about them having this brand new (of course now it's a year old, so not the latest and greatest anymore)computer just sitting around, when I could sure put it to good use. Wouldn't you think a good friend would give it to me if they weren't going to use it???

Buggie, what did you think of the Dell support when you used it? Did you call them or use it on-line?
