Hi, I don't think I've welcomed you to the site yet. WELCOME

Well, I have been on a lot of NSAIDS, with Celebrex and then Vioxx being the most recent. Celebrex helped some, but vioxx helped more, not enough mind you, but more. Right now I take Ultracet (a form of ultram) and Vioxx. Those have worked well together for me.

Good luck

Daniel

Everyone reacts differently to these drugs. VIOXX has been a Godsend for me. The difference was literally night and day. I went to a rheumie, got diagnosed with AS (I was also in a flare, pretty lousy time), and he sent me home with some samples. The doctor said, and I quote, "Try these. Trust me, you're going to want to bear my children." Well, the next morning I woke up, got out of bed, made coffee... About half-way through the Sports section I realized that I had gotten out of bed in one smooth motion. No carefully maneuvering to my side, pushing off the elbows, you know the drill.

Later that same day I went to PT. Same machines I had been doing for months. Twelve degrees more range of motion at the hips. 35 pounds more weight than I had ever done before. I started off at 50 mgs of VIOXX a day and the first time the prescription almost ran out I panicked, got down to the pharmacy minutes before they closed for a refill. I did not want to feel the way I had felt before again. The VIOXX had brought me an extraordinary improvement in terms of pain relief, greater flexibility -- all those good things.

These days I am using 12.5 mgs a day, occasionally a little more if I need to. I couldn't be more pleased.

Check around on the forum. Other people have had *very* different reactions with VIOXX, ranging from ineffectiveness to serious reactions.

Like I said at the top of this missive: Everyone is different. Try it. If you're lucky, this'll be the one for you and you'll get it right on your first try. If not, well, there's lots of interesting drugs out there, and more on the horizon.

Good luck!

Best,

Adam Rodman

Fist Michel, welcome. I was on 50 mg Vioxx with no effect, but I am one of the atypical AS/RA sufferers, meaning my lower back is okay. It's in my wrists and neck for now. There's a wise "old" man here that gave me some good advice, keep trying until you find what works for you. (You're not that old are you Loz ? ).
No matter what, you're going to find lotsa people here that have lotsa answers for you. Good luck and stick around, you'll enjoy it.

Ian

Hi Darla,

I don't know if I welcomed you to the KickAS family or not. So welcome. I was on Celebrex at first and it did nothing as well. But the Vioxx did work for a while for me. Now it isn't not working as well. But everyone is very different.

Take care and welcome again,

Lisa

MANY HAPPY AND PAIN FREE DAYS TO ALL !

Lisa have you ever thought of switching meds for a while. Everyone tells me that its not SUPPOSED to work, and that the change that I feel is only psychological. However, I truly feel a difference if I switch between NSAIDs every once in a while... Its not intentional - run out of Vioxx and have a few Mobic still kicking around kind of thing. Regardless, the drugs always feel more useful after I've had a bit of a break from them.

Just an idea.

Hi Linc ,I had a similar stomach -bowel problem with Vioxx ,but that was a year ago ,now like you have discovered less agressive treatments .Vioxx is supposed to be less damaging than others to the gut ,but I doubt it some how.Regards .Tim

New to kickAS (today) - but not new to AS. I have been on Vioxx (as little as possible - but enough to get by) for about a year. My experience is that it just isn't as effective as celebrex. Vioxx doesn't seem to give me the same movement and relief as celebrex. Although on the positive side - i no longer get sick in the morning - although that might have something to do with giving away coffee. reading the other posting it looks like mixed results - depending on the circumstances.

The effectiveness of Vioxx and the differences between Vioxx and Cerebrex is something i have been debating with myself for a while. I am absolutely thrilled that a forum exists to hear other peoples views. fantastic!

Hey-
just a follow-up...in late October I went to the rheumy and asked her to do blood tests, as my August tests showed elevated liver enzymes....after I'd been taking Vioxx since May 2001....I had to track her down in January, as her office had not gotten back to me....but the word was that my blood tests were normal...I now will only take Vioxx when I flare despite my alternative pill intake....
Peace
Linc
