Hello all,
The NSD has worked wonders for my AS and I was wondering if any of you know someone who has used this diet for Ulcerative Colitis. I've got a friend who was just diagnosed and is just feeling sick as heck. Didn't want to say anything about this diet or website til I checked in with everyone first. False hope is no fun in this situation.

Thanks!

Hi, bobc:

There is strong evidence that the NSD will help cUC very much, and Ebringer certainly believes that Kp is the cause of Crohn's, also.

Good luck and thanks for asking about your friend and wish him all the best from us,
John

gday Bob,

Sorry to hear about your friend, good of you to help.

I might suggest 2 other sites as a place to ask as well.
www.crohnszone.org - 1000's of IBD sufferers there and a great place.

www.crohnsforum.com - same horse, different jockey

I have had UC for about 20 years, exacerbated greatly by handfuls of NSAIDS over that time but nicely back under control now.

Im on Pentasa (mesalazine 1mg daily) but keep it to one a week with I believe the LSD or reduced as i call it because I have no idea what low is, i simply consciously cut what i can. Im also on Enbrel for the AS and I believe it was helping prior to starting the pentasa, but it isnt supposed to apparently *shrug* im not arguing lol.

I heat healthily most of the time (cept that pizza last night) but one thing i stick to is a palm full of raisins each morning with a cup of yoghurt. Pointless giving you the brands i use here in upside down land. John may be able to help there or one of the US regulars.

Take care - Australia Day long weekend here - everyone gets Friday off - you guys should as well.

Patrick

Hi Yes it does work, the diet works by lowering the overall bacterial population in the gut. The one thing that you may need to remove in addition to starch is sugar but they will have to experiement e.g fruit. It works for chrohns too. If you want a few places to look at for variations/info, check the SCD diet out and also another yahoo group http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/candidasupport/

I don't know about UC but myself I have AS and Crohn. I have done 1 year LSD followed by 1/2 year total NSD. I consider Crohn to be more or less totally gone now, whereas AS is almost gone. So for me NSD can be considered to be even more successful with Crohn than AS (although I consider the two to be just two different sides of the same coin...)

Good luck there
Andreas
