Hi and welcome to Kickas,

I left my first job in part due to AS. I had to go to clients offices often and work from there in chairs I would extremely uncomfortable and carrying 10-20lb cases to/from the clients. Was a bit much for my SI's, they would also inflame.

But I found a new job which helped. We are required at times to compromise with the AS, but it does not have to mean we need to stop living.

Hope you can find answers to help. Chris, Ian (no longer posts) and Pete all have spent time in your profession. Hopefully they can help you out.

Tim

Hi Joe, I work at a desk most of the day (except when I'm running around the office doing stuff for my boss), so I'm not completely on the same page as you. However, I also dance, hike, act, sing and direct (all of which require that I maintain my mobility).

I encourage you to take up a good fitness program that includes stretching, strengthening and cardio. On the days when you feel like hell, pull it back a little and don't overwork (or work at all depending on the day) the areas that hurt. On the good days, you can do more, but listen to your body.

Also, I highly recommend pilates for the stretching and core strengthening aspects of it.

Check out the No/Low Starch Diet. It may be difficult to keep up at the firehall, but it's worth a try.

Hugs,

Kat
