Does anyone have any ideas on fusing teeth. In 2006 I had one extracted, then 2007 I had to have the one next to it removed. Right now I am having pain in another one on the same side. This one is a smaller tooth and looks healthy. Is a sign that AS is going to take all of my teeth. I Can't find anything on the Internet about AS and fusing teeth.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.
I also have diabetes and Osteoporosis.

Thanks for any replies
Doreen

Doreen - There was a thread on here some time ago re 'fusing teeth' into the jaw. Was not to do with osteonecrosis of the jaw (due to those Bisphosphonate drugs) but was to do with AS. About a year ago. Haven't seen anything else on it since, either on here, on the Forum, nor on the internet. But do well remember the thread -

Hi Molly,
How are you doing. I know the thread on teeth fusing to the gum because I was the one that started it. My problem is not in the jaw. It is the gum fusing to the tooth. You are correct their is nothing on the Internet. I guess I will have to go see the dentist.

I did keep a copy of that thread in my favorites. Here it is.

Well take care,

Doreen - Terrif. Had missed your post in its entirety - must have been away? Very interesting input.

When I saw my new dentist (consultancy level) I mentioined the 'fusing' to him. He ''sneeringly' laughed out loud at me! As much as to say 'nonsense'. OK. Well, he's the joker, not us. He did a good job, but I dislike him and will never to go back. Hopefully my next dental visit will be in France...

Have saved your link to those most informative posts. Thanks a bunch hon.

Doreen - just did another google search. Found summat:

http://www.simplestepsdental.com/SS/ihtS...t/c.555741.html

David A. Albert, D.D.S., M.P.H., is an associate professor and assistant director of Community Health at the Columbia University College of Dental Medicine. He also holds an appointment in the Joseph Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University. He maintains a practice within the ambulatory care network of the Columbia DentCare program in the community of Washington Heights/Inwood in Northern Manhattan.

This guy made an interesting response to a question by an AS patient in reference to problems with her teeth.

What you describe sounds like a condition known as condensing osteitis. Both condensing osteitis and ankylosing spondylitis are the result of the bones' response to inflammation. However, they do not appear to be related. (...more)

Molly I will most likely have to see the dentist next week. I will ask him about Osteitis. It sound like something that maybe happening in the bottom left side of my mouth.
I don't think I have TMJ but who knows I know the gum on that side is leaning into my mouth.

I will let you know what I find out.

Thanks so much for taking the time to do this research.

Bless you
Doreen

Just wishing to say that fusing is a result of calcification across areas of scarring at some place of inflammation. Therefore, there must be sore inflamed teeth/gums for this to happen at all. I would expect teeth to fuse into gums where there is inflammation at the gum-tooth interface and most likely there is a type of cartilage present that has the AS (or some other inflammatory) response.
Interesting to research it...
Not so interesting to experience

Ted thanks so much for your response.
I am beginning to think there was some type of flare which caused some sort of inflammation. My plan was to call the dentist on Monday. As of Sunday all of the pain was gone and all seems well right now. Needless to say I didn't call the dentist.
But at the first sign of any problems I will call.
Will also try to do some research and see what I come up with on Osteitis.
