HI there.
My husband has AS, which he manages well with exercise and NSAIDs when needed, (he's just started taking Salazopirin again, now that the babies are made! lol), but for the last year he's had really loose poos on and off. I've heard there's a link with Ulcerative Colitis and he's got an appt with a gastro Dr next month.
Has anyone else experienced this??? Is it a normal AS symptom??
Any suggestions most appreciated.
Thanks

Hi and welcome!
Ask him to consider the No Starch / Wheat Diet.
When I am off all starch, especially wheat and milk, I get better. Yes, this is a very common side affect and can become very serious.
Nice to have you here.

Hello there Helthea,

I am a person with both AS and UC. Blood and mucus in the stool is a pretty good indication of UC but your doctors will help you both figure all this stuff out soon enough. Unlike AS, the UC is a pretty straightforward disease. Of course, there are many other issues that can be quite similar - some of which may be improved or avoided completely through diet.

I wish you both the best of luck and I hope that your husband doesn't also have UC. Maybe one of these days, he'll come check out this site for himself? Take care.
