CC - That was the first question I posed to myself: was I 'ticked', was I being paranoid, or, was I 'correct to be concerned'?

Mulled it over all day. Came up with 'concerned' at the lack of care by the hospital. Which initially was, 'help, shouldn't I be advised of this ere pre-prepping dietary and, remembered last night about the medications list as well. Like NO Warfarin - not that I take Warfarin, but, suppose I'd been someone without the knowledge or no access to such knowledge. So patient goes in for procedure, NOT knowing. Takes Warfarin, no one tells her NOT to so take. Then. Bang, she's in a problem, reaction, bleeding due to removal of polyp and they can't stop the bleeding... (Which is why anyone on Warfarin has to stop taking some 10 before a colonoscopy, and before other procedures as well as - like any and all surgery. Wonder about tooth extraction? Suppose, yes.)

OK. So let's look at this list I have from the UK 2005. In BOLD capitals: Stop taking iron tablets, asprin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and drugs taken for arthritis 7 days before the examination... (I'm on Celebrex 200 which is on my schedule of drugs I gave him). Sheesh, 7 days. Had Celebrex and Codolipran yesterday, two of each - blasted neck jipping me - so, within the 7-day time scale, just!

Woke up this morning remembering that I needed to check out that list of drugs... (Wonder IF I should stop the LDN as well as. OK phone Dr L.)

The strictures are preambled with the following, written in upper case: 'It is important that you read the enclosed information sheet regarding your preparation for the procedure'. Quite!

Another area that concerns me is the actual medication they might use for the prep. Know that one of em can cause kidney problems - and I did have nephritis many years ago (don't want collapsed kidneys again!) Sigh. OK. Will phone consultant again. IF they use that particular medication and only that one, then, hang it, am walking away. Will cancell.

Utter imcompetence is turning this simple run of the mill procedure into a farce. One shakes one's head.

Thanks CC. All input is helping me clarify matters, to decide my course of action v. inaction... 'Smile'.

Yes. Think that is about right Tim. Know that I 'need' to have matters checked out. So, it is either this guy at this hospital, or, one of the 'libre' mob (independents, whom I don't trust), or go to a different hospital. Hmmm. Rennes is the only one that I think I'd trust, and Rennes is several hours away, outside my area of 'be taken to' - by ambulance that is. So transport not covered by the system - but can get there under my own steam. Rennes could cause problems, as GP could/may put the blocks on! You know, am beginning to ask myself, what the hell I'm doing here in France!

Oh lordy. Sigh.

'Yes' to the first, and 'with difficulty' to the second part...

Quote: "The only dietary changes I needed to make was fasting during the prepping"

I have a list that says 4 days before the exam to eat only foods from the following: boiled or steamed white fish (uggg); boiled chicken (more uggg); egg; cheese; white bread - NO crusts; butter; marge; rich tea biscuits; potatoes - NO skins. DO NOT EAT high fibre foods such as red meat, pink fish, fruit, vegetables, cereals, salad, mushrooms, nuts, sweetcorn, wholemeal bread etc. Drink plenty of liquids - with strictures about what kind of liquids, like not red coloured and etc etc, oh yes, and no dairy.

IF I hadn't of had this procedure twice before then I wouldn't have known sod all about it! NOT impressed...

As for the rest, one does not enter the pharmacy unit in a French hospital...Gendarme, le flick, would prob come arrest you! 'LOL'.

Oh dear, what a run around. Thanks James.

Molly, Im a bit late answering. and i dont really know what to tell you. i was the same before my first MRI.. luckily I have a doctor friend (Well ex- English-student) of mine, who told me what to wear , what not to eat before it etc.

Shame on the hospital for just assuming! if they dont want to tell you about it they should have at least printed a piece of paper!! or even just bullet points. I mean what would happen if someone hadnt had this procedure done before! they wouldnt know what to do at all!!!!!

Hugs, Hope all is well..

Sonja

Also, in terms of meds ... being on LDN limits what THEY should give YOU

(which is kind of funny, they fail to give you a list of things not to take, you give them a very clear list of what not to give you )

good luck,

Oh Molly, what a mess.

I personally wouldn't have enough confidence in this dr. to let him perform the colonoscopy. I think I would be looking for another one. I have to schedule mine but this dr. has a list of do's and don'ts two pages long and makes sure you have followed them. The last time after taking all of that stuff, the a.m. of the proceduire I threw up so they cancelled and I had to start all over.

I have been thinking of you a lot. I am sorry you are having so much trouble with your drs. I am losing confidence in my PCP also.

Hope you have a glorious day or are having or did have. ) I never can keep the time change straight.

Blessings.

Dear Sonja - Yes. Shame on the hospital for 'assuming'. Just TG I 'am' aware - think IF a person not aware, or an elderly person not aware - and all the other permutations! Mind boggling. And in the end, a need to restart over with the whole area of pre-prep if not including the prep itself (usually, though, the pre-prep is poor so the prep itself is rendered ineffective, which does not come to light until the colonoscopy itself! In which scenario, the poor patient has to undergo the whole darn caboodle all over again... Hair raising. Heck, no hair left. I'm balding with this lot 'LOL')

But getting there Sonja - see 'update'.
