Hi everyone!
I am quite new here and must say it is an amazing place to be. I was diagnosed with AS during 2006. At this stage I am still not really accepting this illness and just want to be without it! Wishing and praying it away. My biggest fear (as a mom) is for my two children, 15 and 12.... Don't want to put it into words.
I was really suffering during 2006, was hospitalised and then got better with lots of meds. This year I started with a bad flare-up. My ESR was 94 in February. Again hospitalised in March with Solu-Medrol IV. Not nice! Am now trying to go without starch and find it quite difficult but am feeling better already.
I have lots of compassion for everyone of you, especially the younger ones. I feel "fortunate" to only suffer from it now at age 47.
Take care and all of the best.

Welcome Aboard Ronel,
We are glad to have you as a part of the KickAS family. I know that others here have those same worries that you do. Most of us don't need you to put those into words.

Feel free to make yourself at home, and let everyone get to know you.

Keep Kickin'AS
Chris

Roogy, Baie dankie! Thanks so much. I gather that you are originally from South Africa? So many of us wandering around these days!
I have a brother in New Zealand - he has AS as well, fortunately under control at the moment. He is swimming a lot.

Thanks Chris! Yes, I have to keep sane and not worry about everything little pain my children mention... (But I am very aware and will not turn a blind eye.)

Yes, I'm South African... not the only expat on here either... I've not been diagnosed as yet, although have struggled with iritis for many years now so when the joints started acting up it seemed obvious to follow this line of enquiry as I'm HLA-B27+. Reducing starch and increasing exercise helps me - I'm sad that I had to miss my pilates class tonight, but I'm fluey so didn't think it was a good idea. Swimming is definitely great too.

Anyway, welcome again - you'll find loads of info here (as well as some tasty no-starch recipes!)
