Hi John, as the others said, IBS is often associated with AS. According to one page I read, AS occurs in about 7% of patients with IBS.

There is actually one form of arthritis in the Spondyloarthropathies family, called Enteropathic Arthritis that is known to follow IBS. It primarily affects the peripheral joints, but can also affect the spine and SI.

Reactive arthritis, another Spondymonster, occurs after an infection, usually of the small or large colon. It seems to be the only form of Spondy that has a documented direct trigger connection in that it can be traced back to a specific infection or trigger.

I found reference to one form of arthritis, loosely called 'bowel bypass arthritis' that has occurred in patients who had a bowel bypass done to lose weight. It resembles Enteropathic. It was found that in those patients who had their bowel re-attached, this type of arthritis resolved itself.

You might find this page from the Patient UK website interesting: Enteropathic Arthropathies

Not because this is what I think you have, but because it's all so inter-related.

Hugs,

Kat

Hi. Some of us posted this years ago. I have taken immodium for nearly 20 years. But there is a cure. Stop eating for a few days, then jsut eat one thing at a time, slowly adding the safest known things until you see what foods and combinations cause the trouble.

I fail in endurance, so I have immodium with me always. But I can stop the diahrea by fasting.... In other words, I am too weak to practice what I preach, too many things manke me sick, so i jsut give up before i am better.
Cheese is one of the worst, fried foods, carmel, and anything wiht milk or wheat. I can stop the diahrea, if I can stay on the diet.
Good luck, my friend.

Ohmygod, I have this stupid problem and it sucks. All of a sudden, the urge hits and watch out. If you're in my way, you're in trouble! I thought something was just wrong with me...

Now there's a thought. Who placed first in the Olympic runs?

Thank you for that, Dow! The imagery was far too vivid - I could see the whole thing! Made me think of a sketch from "Who's Line Is It, Anyway?"

John, we've rather gone to the light side of your post. It's not that we don't care, just that sometimes you just need to laugh about something to make it easier. Don't know if that makes any sense.

Warm hugs,

Kat
