Hang in there.... a hard time to be doing it for sure. Make sure you drink lots of water and be gentle on yourself. smile

Sorry to waffle on. But it is Day 3 of grapes only and I have decided to fast for the last day. Water only until tomorrow morning.

My heel pain has dramatically improved. I couldn't even stand the lightest of touches until this morning. Pretty amazing. Even yesterday it was sore.

If anyone out there is thinking of doing the diet it's not as hard as you think. I absolutely love my food (particularly all the nasties) and by Day 3 I am happy to fast. My SI joint is far less inflamed so I am hoping my chiro friend can adjust me so that maybe...just maybe...when I wake up in the morning (after eating grapes for 2 days and fasting for 1) that I feel pain free.

After that I am going to go with the NSD diet but as I am uncertain of dairy, fruit and nuts at this stage I will go cautiously. I think I will try dairy first. I did the NSD and dairy for close to a week before going "drastic" and I felt no change at all...maybe it was fruit and nuts that were aggravating my AS.

So I will continue to report in and hopefully other people can learn from my mistakes. As I say I have a mild case of AS so I understand that other people may react differently to the NSD but so far I am seeing results...and no one is more sceptical than I am!

Cheers

Keith

FYI - Careful, if you start to feel worse, more pain, avoid the grapes, if thats all your eating, thats a lot of sugar, it would kill me.

Hey Keith, you are doing so well!

Just be very careful when you break your fast...you will need to eat lightly and only easily digestable food for the first day or two.

Green grapes are the safest fruit possible on the NSD. They are never ever starchy. The glucose can help with energy levels and sugar cravings while adjusting to the diet.

While some members have trouble with sugar...refined white sugar and even fruit sugar...most seem to be OK with it. Especially fruit anyway. Don't want to go crazy on the white sugar.

For my husband Jon the key is strict NSD and no dairy. That does the trick for him. He can't tolerate too many nuts...wouldn't eat them daily. So a small handful of nuts once or twice a week is about it. Almonds, walnuts and macadamias and pistacios if he wants to live on the edge, hehehe.

I guess with a little more time and experimentation on yourself you will find what works for you.

All the best

Thanks Chelsea and Jeanne

I appreciate the advice. Most of the pain is gone now. That is pretty amazing actually. My heel has a sore spot when you press it. This could be scar tissue so I am very happy with how things are progressing.

I will keep it simple today. No nuts and no dairy.

Thanks for also for the support kurumi, John and Louise.

I hope that my experiences of starting the NSD will help others who are unsure of its benefits. If I keep reporting back it may help someone avoid the mistakes that I make.

Cheers all.

Keith

One final question for Australian members. Which vitamin / minerals supplements are safe, I would like to use John's suggested program for repairing the gut.

Hi There,

I have been on the NSD for nearly two years and have had great results. I have recently been flaring up again and am now trying the no dairy. Day 2............... I have given up milk in tea and coffee, but will find giving up the magnums a real challenge.

Good Luck

Fine effort Antoniette.

I am thinking similar thoughts myself about dairy. How long did you go on the NSD diet before you got great results?

Cheers Keith

Hmmmm, I'm not sure if this Iodophor is OK or not. Cooked tomatoes usually go just as black as bread when I test. I've got "Iodine Tincture BP" from the pharmacy... see link

Hi Keith i take it NUFC means NUFC as opposed to SAFC. I am a Sunderland supporter living in Houston Texas and have AS but dont have much trouble with it now as i have been on the NSD or more like LSD now for about 20 years ish. Hope things workout for you. Best George

I won't hold an affiliation with Sunderland against you George!

Yes my team is Newcastle United but I left Newcastle nearly 25 years ago.

How did you find out about the diet 20 years ago? Also how long before you went back to LSD?

Cheers

Keith
