Thanks maybe it is AS these lumps of bone have only appeared in the last year or so I just had one on my thumb joint but now they are forming on my other knuckles as well. Also got one on my knee I can move about.

hi kevin,

when my tendons are just a little inflamed, just a little tendonitis, they do feel more "itchy" than anything else, when they are worse, they kind of burn, worse than that is a sharper pain. so yes, when just a little inflamed, they "itch".

as for those bony nodules in my fingers, my rhuemy first told me they were nothing, everyone has them, then told me they are a common symptom of osteoarthritis. since he told me two completely different things on two separate occasions, i figure one has to be wrong (as they can't both be right) or they are both wrong. so i have them, assumed it was a significant "symptom" to use in diagnosing me with "inflammatory arthritis" but i was told no, symptom common and insignificant. so all i can say is i have them, and when i was first told everyone has them, i felt the hands of many friends and my husband, and no one but me and a student with lupus had them, so i can at least say, not everyone has them as i was first told, but whether it is a symptom from osteoarthritis or an inflammatory arthritis, that i'm less clear on.

Hi Kevin,

I have itchyness for continouse 5 long years and am not able to find out why though i worked with various doctors, but what i found out and tested was that the itchyness increases when my ESR is only high. This concludes as a side effect of probably ESR or AS.

I have dont all the tests to see if i am allergic to anything but found non. The pain is so tremondous that in the middle of nights i wake and cry, as i start rubbing my hands and fingers i go MAD, i losse all my senese and come to a point where i just feel like CUTTING my fingers off .......... or cutting my hands off ......... but lately i have realised how to handle it.

Please check you ESR when you have Itchyness and also check your ESR when you dont have ITCHYness so you can know the difference, secondly try to see what your eating during that time and thirdly see if your Motions are passing properly (check if there is any change)and lastly see if allergy tablet like Cetrizine or Allegra help you in that time (if id does then consult your doc).

Anyway one thing i have found as an alternative is applying ICE cubes or somehting frezzing cold on the place where there is itchyness and it comes downs.

Hope this helps, let us know your feedback
