Anyone tried or familiar? Saw an ad in Arthritis Today and they're a sponsor of the Arthritis Foundation. Not saying that means it's gonna work, just giving background. Made from cobra venom. I'm intrigued. Comes in an oral spray and a topical gel.

Very interesting. This may have potential.

From the Cobroxin web site http://www.cobroxin.com/our_products.php#how_cobroxin_works :

"These nicotine receptors are found in nerves outside the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord) and they are also found on cells of the immune system. Specialized proteins in Cobroxin block the action of acetylcholine, a major stimulating neurotransmitter in the nervous system and activator of the inflammatory pathways. As a result, the pain and inflammation pathways are temporarily shut off."

This makes me wonder if this could indeed be a good over the counter drug to help fight HLA-B27 based immune diseases. Since it is not a COX blocking NSAID the oral treatment may not damage the digestive track which increases Klebsiella pneumonia exposure to the patient's blood stream and potentially worsening the disease. It sounds like the mechanisms are not 100% understood, but that is the case with many medications.

I wonder how strong its anti-inflammitory characteristics are compared to its paid relieving characteristics?

Their web site claims that CVS, Vitamin World, and Wallgreens carry their product. I will have to check my friendly neighborhood apothecary and see if they carry it.

I would be curious if Nutra Pharama would research extending this drug to eye drops safely. There is a lack of safe ocular anti-inflammatories on the market.

Nobody worry, I don't plan on putting cobra venom in my eyes. I think that is generally a bad thing.

I found the topical variant of this product at a local Wallgreens today. I have done 3 applications to a soar shoulder joint and so far I think it has helped. It is too soon to tell, but I think it is doing a better job at suppressing joint pain than topical Volteran.

I will post an update in a week or two as to what I am thinking of the product. My initial experience with it has been positive, which actually is unusual as so many things I have tried have had no noticeable positive effect. But the true test will be in a more long term experience.

Cobra venom has been tried in AMN - adreno myelo-neuropathy. Didn't work. Posted on this before - most disappointing. Also tried in canine arthritis, didn't work. Again, disappointing.

Will be interesting to see what it 'can' do!

So far my 3 day experience is that Cobroxin topical makes me think it is analogous to acetaminophen. It seems to have pain relieving qualities but very week inflammation reduction properties.

As of right now it seems as though I have some uses for the drug as my shoulders tend to often hurt, but do not seem to be noticeably inflamed. The Cobroxin seems to help in that scenario better than Volteran does (of course I could be coming down from a flare up and that would make it seem like it was working, these things can be hard to tell). My knees which fill with fluid do not fair as well as the pain is only numbed and the inflammation is not addressed.

I do not think Cobroxin will be a cure all for every one on this board, but I do believe it can help some people with some of their problems. In my case so far it looks like it can partially help which is a win.

I am glad to see it on the market. The more weapons we have to fight the disease, the better I think we will all fair. That is assuming of course that these weapons are not all just snake oil. (sigh, bad euphemism noted)

Thanks for posting the info. Acetominophen doesn't touch it for me. But I do really appreciate you sharing the data. So much to try and so much to hope for....
Perhaps my next step will be bee venom. I had read of its benefits for other disorders. It's all hope.
