If you want to use this QR code (Quick Response code) just save the image and paste it where you want. You can even print it and use it that way. Coffee cups, T-Shirts etc would all be good for the QR code.

I have to admit, I sort of chuckled when I read this. I can't say that it bothers me. Maybe because the first time I'd ever heard Ankylosing Spondylitis abbreviated to Ank Spond, was at my initial visit with a new rheumatologist and clinical researcher who I was referred to because she had a special interest in researching AS. She'd helped to create a one-stop multi-discipline rheumatology clinic within one of our hospitals for the purpose of helping patients to receive better comprehensive care. Not only is she incredibly intelligent, she is kind, caring and about as attentive as you could ever hope a physician to be. I liked her immediately and ended up participating in 2 research studies she was doing, one on the genetics of AS. Also, when she says Ank Spond, she has the loveliest lilting Irish accent that is instantly likeable! I just imagined that in her work, she must have to say ankylosing spondylitis a million times a day, and... perhaps her students were misunderstanding her when she shortened it to AS? Sort of similar to abbreviating Osteoarthritis to Osteo instead of OA, it just sounds nicer. Or Melinda to Mig... err, not sure if that sounds nicer but it is shorter! LOL I do like Ank Spond more than Ank Spon though. Spon sounds yucky. I guess mine was a good first impression. mig

I have never had anyone use Ank Spon so I don't know how I feel about it. It doesn't sound good.
What realy erks me is when you go to the ER and they ask what conditions you have and you say Ankylosing spondylitis. Later you overhear the nurse talking about you to the doctor and they say oh she has a bad back.
Doctor often rolls eyes at the bad back then comes over and says oh you have a bad back hey. Then I am left to explain again that I have AS. Doctors attitude completely changes once you tell him it is AS. I think its because a "bad back" or "back pain" is one of the most common excuses for pain med junkies who go tlo the ER. So I have been told anyway.
So I guess I would rather the nurse say Ank Spon than bad back.

I just hate when people say "How's your Back??"
I can not defeat you but I will not let you win
