If you want to use this QR code (Quick Response code) just save the image and paste it where you want. You can even print it and use it that way. Coffee cups, T-Shirts etc would all be good for the QR code.

Hi, I was wondering if anyone knows where I can pick up an iodine dropper? Can I get this at most drugstores? I've seen betadine, but not sure if this works the same. I've run across some supplements that claim to be starch-free, yet one of the ingredients is rice?? I've seen in previous posts that others have had this same problem of manufacturers claiming something to be starch-free that really isn't.

Dear Meredith: I use "Atomic Iodine," formerly Atomidine that is available from the Baars. It is an edible form that is equivalent to 1% solution and is more accurate because it is water based instead of alcohol. All drugstores carry small rod droppers (the rubber droppers are attacked by the iodine) in 1- 2-% normal concentrations. This is not the same as the antibacterial iodine-based soap scrub that doctors use. Some time ago we had a discussion as to whether we could actually detect everything that might be a problem. I think that we decided that some things will not indicate, but could become food for the bacteria. These are in a class like MSG, sodium benzoate, etc; usually in foods in very small amounts, but perhaps larger in beer and certain things. We always have to be careful, especially if some manufacturer does not know the difference between rice and starch... Best Regards, John

I assume the iodine is for helping with AS> I did read somewhere that someone had linked iodine to being of some benefit to AS. The table salt we have in Australia is iodised and I believe this means it has iodine added. Is this the same in the U.S. and elsewhere? I also heard a program on the radio saying that because of the recent turn to seasalt instead of table salt we are not getting enough iodine in our diet and that is especially not good for pregnant women. Any thoughts?

Dear Lion,
The Iodine is to use to test food for starch. In the presense of starch, the Iodine solution turns blueish-black. I have never tought that it was worth the effort. Lately, I've had to reconsider.
On each of the last three weekends, I've been a little careless and have accidently ingested starches. This last being the worst. I made a nice spicy sour cream vegatable dip and did not read the label on the sour cream container. The second ingedient was me nemisis--Modified food starch--arggh. The little flare-up caused by a small amount of starch in my usual vegatable, protien, dairy and chocolate diet should subside tomorrow or the next day. Nothing like a good kick in the AS to get my head out it. I'm also begining to wonder if too much chocolate could be violating the "Moderation in All Things" rule as well.
As for Iodine in salt, I would not recomend it. I am not a nutrition expert, but do not believe in supplementing by adding things to otherwise harmless ingredients. You won't find Flouride in the water I drink either. Hope my opinion is useful, as I tend to assume as well
Best Wishes, Ike.

Hi Ike et al, You can never have too much chocolate!!!! Well actually I'm sure John will be back on to say that we have to be careful with processed sugars. I don't know - I try to limit myself to 1 bar a day and it hasn't been causing a reaction. Just take care that there are no nasty additives in it. On the iodine - I haven't bought any yet either! But I do get the occasional flare up again and am always trying to guess what caused it. I now know that live yoghurt is out for me. I am currently on a juice fast - 4th day. Strange things have happened but I feel ok - only prob is that my back is a bit sore. I am wondering if its any of the supplements I'm taking (Kelp & Alfafa, Cod Liver Oil, Glucosamine, psyillium husks & pro-biotics, slippery elm, peppermint oil, aloe vera juice) - to name but a few!! Only joking! I don't normally take so much WEIRD stuff - its just 'cos I'm doing this colon cleanse. Besides that I am careful with the fruit and veg - none of the know badies. Anyone know anything about watercress? Thought that might be bad - or raw brocoli stalks? Its something anyway but hopefully it'll die again. ali p.s. as a funny aside for John (sorry to the rest!) - I went to my chemist to look for an enema the other day and the pharmacist (who was a young fella) wouldn't sell it to me - I was asked first (in very hushed tones) by two different female attendants what I wanted it for. When I said to clean out my colon they looked at me oddly! Then the male said very sternly 'I do not recommend you do that' - I said 'well I know it isn't everyones cup of tea but I have read up about it, know how to use it and want to try'. Again sternly and exercising his power 'I can't sell it to you without expert medical attention'!!!!!!!!!!!! So there went my enema plans - tried to find colon irrigation locally but it was £48 which is too pricey for me at the mo'

Hi Ali, Fasting can be a little strange for me too. Ususlly in a good way. This is also when i'm usually so pain free that i forget about the dragon. I don't know how much 48 pounds is in the currency thaat I use, but it sounds like alot. I hope you can get the equipment you need. I would be very shy abuot getting tis done for me. I guess the enema police at the pharmacy don't allow much privacy either. I don't see any thing thaat you are eating that would cause a flare. Maybe dislodging toxic stuff could be causing the reaction. Wishing You Well, Ike

Thanks for writing back Ike. How do you do your fasting?? I am just finishing up today and feeling good for it. Pain has subsided again - I think it probably was those toxins. I recommend it to everyone 'cos it really cleaned me out and that was without the equipment! I will try the irrigation sometime though. Glad to hear you are feeling good on the NSD, Best wishes ali

Hi ali,
since I also cannot have live yogurt, i tip you that I am scared of every probiotic. yakult truly kills me, for example i haven't tried others.
aloe vera sounds intersting to me also, but it also contains loads of muca-polysacharrides, which could be kp-food. I want to try, because the same muca-stuff is good for the joints also, so ....
since you have pain now, i tip you that you use two substances that i am cautious with. Please let me know if it does not appear to cause the pain.
And also, repeated fasting can also cause de-nutrition, which can make you too weak to fight the KP, keep that in mind ....
it sounds you are going strong right now. Good, good, very good ... but don't let the success blindfold you ...
Goodluck,
Arjan

Hi Arjan, its easy to get blindfolded I know but I am pretty resolute that I am going to stick with this diet for at least 4 months (if I am ok then I may go on LSD). I am pretty much over my flare now - cut out the supplements as I am back on my normal food. Found the aloevera ok - who knows though - it could have been causing my probs. Would the dragon know (he's been very quiet lately!!!)?? I think it may have been the pro-biotics or else the fact that I was getting cleaned out. Its so hard to know. Feeling good today though (and that was after being extremely bold last night and having half a poppudom - it was impossible - could not resist). Hope you keep well ali

Hi Ali, I fast for three to five days when I fast. I have only done this 4 times as I have only been on NSD for 1 yr. 3 mo. I tried fasting after reading about the possible benefits in April of last year. The apple diet is the first thing I tried. It made me ravonously hungry and I did not do well. The next three have been complete fasts(nothing but water). This works much bettter for me as the sharp hunger pangs leave during the latter part of the second, or early in the third day. I have noticed that reintroducing food correctly can also be very important. After my last fast, I was a little careless and consumed just a little starches with a great negative affect. (The fast had removed every trace of pain and I let my gaurd down.)
I do believe that too much fasting , just as too much of enything can be dangerous, so I only fast every three months. For more info contact John. He can send you some excepts on the subject. I think I will do this for now on regardless of The AS. There seem to be intangible benifits in changing our perspective and mental facilties.
Sincerly, Ike
