Dearest Michelle - I go right alaong with the others, *Pleeeeese get thee to yr rheumy to get this checked out. Might be Lupus and the sooner you can clear up questions the better you can handle the rest. So, orders gal. OK?

Just posted on a new Lupus drug, approval expected in Dec.

Can you do some of the Manatee exercises that she has posted to her KA profile. I have found them most beneficial - as do em at my physio at the hospital. Have loosened up my neck and thorax. Most beneficial.

Thanks Molly...my rheumy appointment is January 8th...I'm going straight to Manatee's profiloe...and i think I'm going to bring up physio, I think it's time for that...thanks so much for keeping us "state of the art" on medical breakthroughs, it's really been quite a contribution to us all, Molly....btw, how is Miss Weapon of destruction doing? It is possible that it could be dandruff. Yes the dermatologist said you can get dandruff in lots of places. I have the problem across my eyebrows down around my nose and around my ears. When I take a hot shower, the area's that peel turn red. I have also noticed that when I'm in a flare those areas stay red all day long. Turns out dandruff is linked to inflammation of the skin and the overgrowth of skin cells. in those areas affected.

No...I don't think so, it's not flaky, it's just red and covers both cheeks and the sides of my nose bot just a little faint strip crossing the bridge of my nose...also, my mouth has been blistered for a couple of months, when I drink say a 7-up, it feels like I ate cayenne...I'm sending you a PM, I want to tell you something about Dr. Verella(sp?)...

If you haven't already, be sure to take pics of the rash before it's gone. Also, you may want to get in to see a dermatologist first if you can't see the rheumy sooner. Best wishes

That is an EXCELLENT idea...thank you so much Snowshoe...I can get in to see my dermatologist quickly. I'm just amazed that you said that to me at the perfect time and solved a HUGE problem for me that I was thinking through...I was thinking about calling my PCP and asking him to call out a taper dose of Prednisone to get me through the holidays but I hated to do it because I want my rheumy to see how bad I am...something has to change, if I doesn't, I fear the worst, I feel really bad this time...I'm worried...strange that I want the Prednisone with all of my heart right now, this will be only the second time I've EVER done that because I have an extreme anti-prednisone stance for some strange reason...but really Snowshoe, thank you...

I went to a dermatologist once who did a complete workup for lupus--just to be sure because no one else had. And I remember at the 1st visit, because the rash was gone by the time I got an appt as a new patient, he came in briefly said "science requires proof" then left the room--so the photo idea. At the time I thought "is he really gone?" because that's all he said then floated away without a goodbye! I sat there a couple minutes wondering if he was going to return but he didn't. Of course later when the problems returned and I got appt in time he asked my permission to take photos of my rash to use in teaching med students! So hey, I learned from that & happy to pass on the advice.

Well, first of all don't freak out. I'm ANA+, my sister has lupus, and I'm heat/light sensitive and when I get overheated I get the rash as well. My solution is to simply not get overheated. Just because we have one symptom doesn't mean that we have the full on disease. The good news is that there's a LOT more that can be done about all types of lupus nowadays, if that's what's happening, and lifestyle has more to do with it than anyone used to suspect. Adequate sleep (even aided sleep), hydration, good nutrition, exercise, and staying as stress free as possible all combat the lupus monster. Also, ANA+ people are not supposed to take SSZ, or any sulfa drug for that matter.

Weapon of Miss Destruction! Ah well. For her own sake I rehomed her. Just wasn't fair for her to be tied to this ancient crock who couldn't walk her out sufficiently - and there was only me available to walk her out. Pretty tough last year when I was confined to the house for so many weeks. Just not fair to a young & vigorous animal. She is in a wonderful home, with another dog and a young fella, all of 5yrs, who thinks she is 'fantastic' and 'his' special chum! Five acreas to run and play in. Horses and two donkeys plus a small flock of chickens to follow; great new adult owners and she 'might' even get trained for the gun - that is when her concentration span improves...!! I do go see her from time-to-time and last time I popped in, young Miss D barely said 'Hi' which is *excellent. She is so at home in her new home and very much loved.

Sure, I do miss her, but that would be entirely selfish as she is better where she is than with me. I just could not exercise her properly. She is a pointer, HPR for the chasse, and I do hope that she will one day enter gun dog trials. But if not, she sure is gettng ALL the exercise she'll ever want. She just goes not stop. Phew. And her new dog companion is terrif good company for her - and being an older b'it'ch (female dog) keeps her in order (quite amusing). Just seeing where she is makes my heart glad for her.

Great story Snowshoe...the ironic thing is that my derm comes from a family that is as heavily imbedded with auto-immune diseases as mine is, so he's awesome...he actually told me that I had one of the auto-immune diseases 15 years before I was diagnosed...so I know he can help me...he's taken care of my Grandmother, my Mother, both of my girls, a nephew and me and we love him dearly! Also...I feel so much better now that you, Wendy and a few others have brought me down out of my panic attack a bit... Oh Lord, let me make it through this, I'm trying...thanks again Snowshoe...
